What have you done on your bike today?

Dragged the ZXR out of hibernation the other day… and got it on the ramp for surgery 👀

Found 3 issues so far,

Seat lock stuck so could get the seat unit off - fixed now 🥳

Bolt stripped at the rear of the tank so couldn’t get the tank off - drilled out and got the threads out with an extractor today 🥳

Fuel cap sized on the latches - still working on that one 🥵

When I bought it as a 1 owner bike about 15 years ago I realised it had a few bodges from its first owner - the biggest being rear mudguard sawn off and crap indicators fitted, and fuel tap removed and piped direct with no reserve 🤷‍♂️.

Luckily when I bought the bike I sourced a rear mudguard and standard indicators along with a fuel tap which were easy to find back then 🙂

This is the mess the first owner made of the back end…

Today on removing the tank I revealed the K1’s lovely Keihin CR flat side carburettors 😍

Once the fuel cap issue is resolved it needs a deep clean - and lots of crap anodised bolts that the first owner seemed to love changing back to normal.
He also had the centre of the wheels painted red so they need sorting too 😮

Took the airbox off today to gain more access for a good clean - good job I did as one carb wasn’t connected to the airbox - the rigid duct on the carb came away with the airbox - well 90% of it did 🤷‍♂️
Also one of the airbox side rubber ducts had been snagged the last time it had been fitted 😮

The air filter was a disintegrated mess too but I was replacing that anyway.

A job i always hated, getting a bank of four carbs into the inlet manifolds. Vaseline or washing up liquid was the way to go but still a shit job!!

I think this design will go on reasonably easy - the 3 that were connected still certainly popped of easy - time will tell... I need to find the parts now which are rare as hens teeth 👀

The ultamate find would be new old stock but as you say hens teeth, maybe get a a word out on a forum.

cmsnl have new old stock :)(y) - none anywhere else on the internet, both parts are different to the standard model due to the flat side carbs with bigger inlets.

Today i went for a ride out to Tot hill services to get a Mcdonalds, i think the kids are off school as it was packed in there. So, fuck that, i got some fuel and as @Twinlover asked how much fuel my tank takes, i estimate it to be around 8 litres, the standard tank is 12.5 litres, the tank on mine has been fabricated to be lower on the frame. I've lost 4.5 litres, nevermind if i go for long runs i'll stop at every garage like i did today. After getting fuel i went for a cruise across the North Wessex Downs were it started spitting with rain but it didn't amount to anything. I then went home via getting some shopping and on the way back i got caught in a mini downpour that lasted about 2 minutes if that.
It's still warm out but not stupid hot like it has been so nice on the bike.:)

Kinell my grass hoover has a bigger tank 🤣

More importantly: take some fuel with you and see what it does after the light comes on..... 👀
One thing that struck me today is there seems to be more petrol stations out in the sticks then in towns, odd!!

Got the Speedie MOT'd - my friendly MOT guy pulled his face a bit at the number plate, which he's never done on my previous bikes. Apparently he got a spot check on a car recently by the authorities.

I didn't want to put him in a position so nipped back for the original plate and a reflector and went and stuck it on with a stick pad.
