What have you done on your bike today?

Yesterday I stripped the rear mudguard and prepped & re painted the metal brackets - just fitted today, now the previous owners wiring mess to sort 🤷‍♂️ also fitted the fuel tap after a bit of a head scratching how it mounted along with the solenoid from the carbs which seemed odd to me - realised I had a works manual for the bike which helped!

Need to order new fuel pipe and air pipe for the carb solenoid as it’s well crusty…

Today i went shopping, i decided to go to Sainsbury's!! I fancied some burgers as they do better one's than Tesco and a few other bits, dropped that off at home and went for a ride out. Didn't go far as the weather is a bit sketchy and a lot cooler today, apparently rain from Sunday well into next week!!:rolleyes:
Did a few bits on the Harley, i broke my number plate, as i keep doing is hitting my leg on it, it's side mounted. I aint buying another one, it looks ok and is readable, i also burnt my hand on the exhaust!!:oops::)

Not sure if they'll be able to help, just in case you haven't tried them, but there's Z-Power in Huddersfield. In particular either Dave Marsden, (he might have a stash of parts) or Phil, both very knowledgeable & might even know of other possible sources ? I use them for all my Z1 bits.

They have hardly anything for the standard model even - but they do have a genuine blank key that I need :)(y)
 
Today i went to Sammy Millers for BSA day, some interesting bikes down there and a big turn out. The weather's so much cooler now, cold on the bike but nice and warm walking around.
I then headed home via Halfords as i bought a 9 piece spanner set for a tenner with my trade card. I'm making a tool set up to carry around in my tool roll on the Harley.

Ah don't worry about the weather forecast, it was apparently raining here since 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon and not letting up till sometime midweek, been hardly a drop - fekkin cloud seeding machine must be fekked 🤣🤣

When I had mine, on my second ride I had to make an emergency detour to Halfrauds to buy a set of imperial allen keys. The useless dealership hadn't tightened the handlebar clamps properly and the bars were drooping downwards. I was wondering why my mirrors were only showing the road. Extremely disconcerting at 60 mph ad potentially very dangerous.
Tells you all you need to know about Harley dealerships. Also, on my first night time ride I was getting constantly flashed. Turned out my headlight was pointing at the sky. These issues were down to poor prep at the dealers when they uncrated the bike.

My mate crashed his harley on a country road late at night a few weeks back, broke bones in both feet.
Headlight blew at about 100 kph. He said he could make out the road for a second or 2 till a car come over the creast of a hill with its lights on full and blinded him..
Do Harleys have Italian electrics?
He was a lil lucky in that a car a ways back behind saw his tail light go off road so stopped to look for him, otherwise he'd still be there!

Older Harley leccies could be a bit Italianesque. Heavily vibey twin-cams with halogen lights and older ones with tungsten could pop bulbs for a pastime. Not unexpected on a bike that shakes like a wet dog when you blip the throttle. If you've got a pre-1990 Harley it's basically like having a a classic Brit with Lucas electrics.
The latest generation of bikes are actually very good. HD were the first manufacturer to introduce keyless ignition and they've never had any problems. Unlike, say, KTM...
My Low Rider S also had the best self-cancelling indicators of any bike I've ever ridden. They always seemed to cancel at exactly the right time and completely reliably, even when exiting off a slip road when you wouldn't think the system would register a change of direction.
 
Went for a ride a few days back (to my near work location) though the weather's been perfect, I must admit I'm a bit skiddish about getting on with the traffic round here and recent events in our family.

My neighbor just finished his MSF course and got his license yesterday,I'm guessing cause I saw him on his 1st bike, a '25 Monster. Hopefully I can get my nerves back in order and help this new rider stay out trouble on the road.
