How about, seeing as you will have a custom metis face to the clock an analogue tacho with a digital speedo and odometer within.
I think it would look the bees knees.
120mm if your eyes require or 80mm would both fit the bill. 🤔 👀:)
 
I would go with the 5 inch speedo, can you get one that reads anti clockwise from the 6 o’clock position ?
that would be unique on a custom build
Not sure about the 5" version, but the 80mm version has it's zero at 5 past the hour & then reads clockwise, which I like.

I'm still leaning towards the 120mm version though !!
DC-5 range the 4-LED version with a white face.

A option, yes, but I don't really want a tacho as well as a speedo, plus the engine will be running a magneto so would require extra wiring to get an ignition pulse for the tacho.
 
Bit of garage time before I hit the Hapkin, (8.3%) !!
Got the top yoke drilled & tapped for the bullshit washer. This will clamp on the headlight/horn mounting bracket just to make it look good !

Got the headlight/horn mounting bracket finished today. Just need to make a few spacers & cut some of the bolts down in length. The actual headlight mount is a repro Indian 4 part.

Eventually I'll get a cover made that will fit between the mounting bracket & the horn & headlight. That will hide the actual mounting bracket, bolt tails & wiring to the headlight, horn & indicators.
 
Had a bit of time on the bobber today. The oil tank/battery box that I had left over from the previous build & that I was hoping to use for this build didn't fit well at all when I offered it up into position.
The oil tank feed fitting was too close to the starter motor, the top two mounts didn't line up at all & the battery box fouled the chain guard.
So, scrap that idea & make a new one is the easier option !
I got a 5" diameter length of tube, (the other tank was 6" diameter) a new battery box & new oil pipe fittings so I had a look into what was needed to make the assembly.

The first job was to re-position the mounting brace for the oil tank end of the assembly & drill the two holes for the mounts. Just tacked it in position & I'll get a propper welder to do the final welding at some point, but for the time being "tacked" will do for me.

I've got a couple of domed end-caps coming for the two ends so I'll have to wait for those to turn up now before I cut the tank to it's final size & get them welded on.

I know you like to craft personally what you do Cat but 😂, seeing the oil tank reminded my of a friend who plays paintball a lot and the air tanks they use

these are just a few examples from one provider of which there are many more Paintball Air & CO2 Systems
 
Looking very sharp there mate! I am imagining some kind of spacecrafty noise happening when you open those fuel caps!
 
Got the oil tank mocked up in position & tacked the two top mounting bungs in place. Then trimmed the battery box down a bit more so it fitted into position without fouling the chainguard. Tyraps come in handy to secure things in place together with plastic window frame packers !!

Well, after some really shit news earlier this week I had a bit or "garage time" today ;)

Got the oil tank body cut down, the perforated screen cut to size, the fitting positions marked & drilled, fittings tacked in place the oil tank is now more or less ready for final welding.
I'm just hanging on now until Maxton finish building the suspension unit for the seat, just in case I need to adjust the oil tank/battery box a bit to accommodate the Maxton unit.
Machined up a little stub pipe for the oil delivery pipe for the engine, just so it's not drawing oil off the bottom of the oil tank that might be carrying any debris.

The perforated screen is to help remove air bubbles in the returning oil from the engine.

Left-hand fitting is the vent from the engine, right-hand fitting is the oil return from the engine scavenge pump. Lower right-hand fitting is the magnetic oil plug, sited at the opposite end of the tank to the oil delivery fitting.

Managed to get over to my welding mate's place today & he got one of his lads to finish welding the fittings that I'd tacked onto my oil tank. Wish I was good enough to do such welding !

I'm going to hold off having the end caps welded on until Maxton have done my seat suspension unit. I'm hoping to mount that behind the oil tank/battery box, across the frame, so want to make sure it will all fit before I commit to welding the tank up.

After a while with no progress I've made a little headway, although in fairness the progress was made by my friendly engineering company !! ;)
I picked up my chain adjusters that I'd had made. A really good friend, who sadly died a few weeks ago, drew these for me with Fusion360 last year & printed a pair of them off on his 3D printer, to check they worked.

Anyway, they're made now out of stainless steel & ready to swop over on the bike when I get chance.
Tomorrow is forecast to be nice again so I'll be out tomorrow for a ride or two & do the swop when the weather goes shit again on Thursday/Friday.

Thank you, a lovely, lovely guy, a great friend for many years, it broke my heart & that of all his many, many friends & family, as these thing do. Totally unexpected, a bolt out of the blue, but he was doing something he loved dearly & on a Ducati. No rider error involved or other driver.
Sadly too, he was just starting a custom build Ducati that would have been epic & may very well still see the tarmac as one of his daughters has vowed to finish it.
It would have been nothing special in the great scheme of things, but his attention to detail would have made it awesome, one of those things you keep seeing things about it the longer you look.
I was hoping to persuade him to let me do a build thread on here following it's progress, hopefully his daughter will let me do it now.

As a bit of a taster someone on here might recognise the swing-arm & another might remember selling him the ST they had, to use as a donor ;)

The ST frame was being used just to hold things in place & act as a basis for the geometry. Style was to be upright, no fairing, etc, air cooled motor potentially equipped with flat-slides, carbon swing-arm, Maxton forks & rear suspension, OZ wheels & StradaFab titanium frame. Rear suspension unit was to lie under the seat, out of sight from the side. He had printed all the linkage parts to check the suspension worked. there was to be machined side plates that were to hold the whole frame/engine/swing-arm together. Top quality Brembo machined brakes. RIP mate 😘
 
Still slow progress, but I have re-started trying sorting out my seat suspension, such as it will be.
I've given up with the idea of using a Maxton T260 unit & gone for some bicycle suspension. I was going to lie the unit horizontally, behind the oil tank/battery box & operate it via two rods from the seat to two Vyrus rear suspension arms, but space is just too tight & the linkage set-up wouldn't look too good. I could maybe have got some neater parts made, but in the end I figured cycle suspension will be good enough.
I got a RockShox unit off Ebay with the idea of mounting it underneath the seat, in the middle. However, I think the seat will rock from side to side too much so I've decided to use two units, one either side. I'm just waiting for the second unit to arrive before I tack the mounting brackets in place. Hopefully by adjusting the air pressure in the two units I can arrive at an acceptable level of comfort. There's 60mm of travel in these units so by default they have got to be better than the seat suspension on the first bike, which has about 25mm of travel at best !!

I did contemplate tacking the brackets in place now, but figured I'd better wait for the second unit to arrive just to be sure it all lines up OK. Sod's Law & all that !
 
The second shock arrived this morning so I got the two lower sets of mounts tacked in place. I had to make some new spacers for both top mounts as the ones the shockers came with were a tight, press fit & didn't allow the shocks to pivot as they compress & extend again.
These units are 230mm eye to eye & the seat looks OK in it's uncompressed position, although I may try some lower units if I feel the seat height is a tad high.

I've got some reduced height cap head bolts coming for the two lower mounts & I'll machine up some suitable shaped alloy washers once they come, similar to the type found on my 750SS fairing mounts.
 
Finally had a bit of garage time on Old Nail No.2 !:)
Managed to get the two end caps tacked on to the oil tank. I'll take that to a mate's place this week hopefully & get him to do some neat welding & then I can leak check it ready to get the battery box half of it ready to attach that.

I also completed another little job too, that's been bugging me for a while. The oil filter housing had a lip around it where the oil filter screwed up. However, that lip was a bit too high & close to the edge of the filter, (I have tried a few different filter makes, just in case any were different, but they were all pretty much the same) & the oil filter body fouled it before the seal was in contact with the sealing face of the housing so consequently you couldn't tighten the oil filter up enough to form a seal.
Anyway, I've machined that down a couple of millimetres & now it seals as it should.
