Panigale V4 2020 new bike and mods.

I think it also shows that as ugly a pig as the v4 is, it benefits greatly from some new clothes which make it look far better
 
Exactly.. you say base model and correct but what difference to the s for your five grand... ugly wheels and electric suspension...😂
Electric suspension that I switched to fixed when I had the S. 😂

It’s a work of art mate but easily missed with the bike... the bike looks the nuts and I wasn’t keen on v4 but that’s a cracker and the v4 has grown in me full stop ... just shows a break from tradition just takes a bit of time and acceptance... like the new monster maybe

acquired The Ducati performance rearsets....the spider ones I had had flip up toe pieces but the actual bit you put your toe under was hard and was damaging my boot, these have a rubber on them... plus the foot peg is also flip up, with a subtle threaded hole you can ut a bolt in so you can use the pegs to support the weight of the bike.... previous RS ones I've used had a roll pin in to support the peg and that would snap to enable the peg to flip up in a crash.....these are nicely machined plus the rear master cylinder is in a slightly better place

Got some carbon heel guards on order...

I’ve got these...

Lock wire the rubber boots on the gear lever and rear brake. When you touch down leaning over, they tear off....

I’ve tried shifting them up a notch but the gear lever still catches the tarmac.
 
So rear wheel eccentric and chain adjustment on the Panigale is the opposite to a 1198 998 etc in that looking from the nearside on a Panigale V4 you turn the eccentric clockwise to tighten the chain. ( on the others 1198 998 you turn the eccentric anti clockwise to tighten the chain.)

Now I first noticed this on my Hypermotard that the eccentric was turned clockwise... but for me this means as you tighten your chain the eccentric goes up around the arc and has an effect of lowering the rear of the bike the further back you turn it.

On the std bike and S including the 2020 facelift bike there is no adjustment or tie rod to compensate for this.The rear shock on both the 2020 base and S is a little taller or longer eye to eye, but will still have no adjustment to compensate for the rear eccentric making the bike going lower..

On the R and the upgrade TTX that s available the bottom eye does have an amount of adjustment if you take the shock off you can extend the bottom ey, but not to any great length and certainly not the adjustability available in the earlier models.

So I am trying to ask a reasonably knowledgeable Ducati expert why is this?

Now there has always been a rear ride height tool available which provides a datum line so you know where your bike rear is to a known value. In fact it was pretty much the same tool as 748 to 998RS to 999 to 1098RS. over the years. with the V2 and 1199 panigales I've seen a variety of ride height tools available too as those bike have the availability of a tie rod to adjust.

So where does this leave me with the rear ride height of the V4?

I was watching an American series where they are converting a v4R to an ultimate track bike. and saw them with a rear ride height tool.....hurrah I thought...it was a Corse part and corse price..

But it does prove that there is something out there. On the program it also showed them fitting a corse rear shock rocker and low and behold a tie rod. Albeit the set up was/is slightly different to the std bikes...


So I can now see where they mount it and an idea of where the cross bar sits for measuring. On the site linked to the tool I also found some numbers ie arm length ie where the wheel sits in the eccentric and the height of the tool I'm looking for completing my triangle of swing arm pivot, engine /frame mounting bolt, and the point above the axle..

Interestingly the Corse rear arm and shock tie rod arrangement the eccentric sits in another eccentric that can be turned, and the chain adjustment is back to anti clockwise to tighten looking from the nearside.

Err, fuck knows. I generally just a use a bit more polish if I’m not sure about something. I find it generally works
 
Interesting. Maybe ask Nelly for his thoughts? There must be a reason for the change.
