What To Do?

When you are a millionaire. 🤣 🤣🤣🤣

No, No, No, forget that shit!

Going to Spain, next year, Going to Bilbao, so have to go from Portsmouth.

Despite tracking ferries going from Spain to France, Brittany Ferries tell me that it is not done.

So, I can either come back to Portsmouth, or go to Ireland and either come back to Fishguard with another firm, or go from Ireland to France with Brittany Ferries, before Portsmouth.

Who knows?

Actually, Fook it! It takes me so long to type this shit, that I've now decided. I'll hang around Bilbao and see how easy it is to take a train to Madrid, but I will just return to Portsmouth.

I want to go to the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands but I don't wanna fly. It is possible, but complicates my life. You used to be able to fly to the Isle of Man from my local airfield at Staverton, Gloucester but that's been stopped. You can do it from, Bristol Airport and maybe Cardiff.

Decisions, Decisions . . . . . . .

Had a brief look. For me, there are no good options from where I live, to the IoM, Jersey, of Guernseyland using just trains, taxis, flights or ferries. I will just stick with Plan A and go to Spain. Daniel will be waiting for me.

My internal monologue when reading a PerryL post.....

I used to live near Swindon in my teens. XTC were from Swindon and I saw them in and around Swindon a few times.

Good memories. George White was an ex-Swindon Speedway rider and a tiny runt. He had a Kawasaki dealership, in Manchester Road, and that is where where I bought my first Ducati. A red and white Darmah (the old V-reg, I think CFO 182V) that they probably took in part-exchange for something Kwackery. That was when the Z650 had just come out, I think?

I liked my Darmah. It did one trip to Spain and at least one Bol. Good bike. And then i started using it to commute about forty miles each way to Rolls-Royce every day. It only let me down once and was recovered from the M4 by the RAC. And that was my fault as I run out of Petrol!

And the other let down was at the Bol when the sprag clutch failed, so you couldn't start it off the starter motor, so it had to be bumped. Not an easy thing o do with a Ducati! It also had a kick starter, but was a bit much to kick over!!!! I used to get a mate to push whilst I sat astride the bike. Funnily enough, he never became much of a Ducati fan! I think that he was on a Suzi GS750 at the time. A faster bike than my Ducati but I could leave him on the bends!

We had some crazy rides home after the Bol. We hit Paris and the traffic was a bit snarled up on the Boulevard Périphérique, so we filtered through, as you do, but got stopped by the Police. They told us that filtering wasn't allowed but never fined us. Of course, being young and dumb, that advice only held out for about a mile and then it was back to our old ways. I now understand why the French drivers got a bit pissy with us!

We did the Paul Ricard to Dunkirk in one hit. I cannot remember exactly, but about 12 hours, or more, in the saddle. A very tiring day!

I had a good lunch (curry) and too many beers! That put me to sleep for the afternoon!

But, back to bikes. I decided that I want a topbox to put my helmet in, if I stop anywhere on my ride (like a café or bike dealer, like Fowlers. But I am obsessed with bike weight (not my weight!) and that has stumped me a bit - not hard after a skin full

The only Ducati that lends itself to Mr Ugly is the Multistrada V2, but Ducati only list panniers fir it and not a topbox! I looked at a BMW F900R, but it is heavyish (219 Kg I think)

Any suggestions? Here's a challenge: a bike less than 200kg for which a topbox big enough for a full-face helmet is available.

£2.59 in the Postern Gate Wetherspoons in York and it looks a dam sight better than that flat southern watery shit you have there! 👀

Don't restrict yourself to bikes that have a manufacturers top box, buy the bike you want and then get a Givi rack and topbox .

I am just looking at GIVI now, but I don't want to buy a bike only to find that I can't get a case for it.

Mind you, although my mate has a big case on his BMW that can take two helmets. it does look shit!

With GIVI, one candidate I found is the Triumph Trident 660. That on my list before I decided on a Monster.

I fink that I may put this idea to the side, as a top Case does look shit!

I thought that would press me to a Multi, but GIVI don't do a case for it - only panniers.

Panniers will need an extra leg swing, something you have trouble with.

As to a top box, an even bigger problem that's been pointed to you before, being a chicken and the egg scenario. If you have a top box you won't be able get on the bike.

I'm not sure how much luggage equipment you need to tour your garage?
