I think Wayne's found a long lost packet of Columbian marching powder.
Utility Point still haven't made contact re: my father-in-laws Gas bill... and they went under a month before Symbio.
I've sent 3 updated readings... his bill is only about £40 a month, so no big deal.. apart from he was £145 ahead.

MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin Lewis has reaffirmed his message to consumers to sit tight and avoid switching to a new fixed-price energy deal as more gas and electricity providers go bust. On his weekly The Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV he warned people to "do nothing".
The clear message to viewers whose fixed-rate energy tariffs are about to come to an end is not to act and to instead simply get moved onto cheaper variable tariffs.
MoneySaver Norman wrote into the show and asked whether or not to accept a new energy fix when his current tariff expires. His fixed price deal comes to an end on 31 October and the company had suggested two new fixed price tariffs: one was £400/yr more expensive and the other, which is a green energy deal, was £700/yr dearer.

But Martin reiterated his advice to not take up those offers. He said: "If you do nothing you automatically move to the price cap tariff. What you need to understand is currently energy providers are being forced to sell energy at substantially below the cost price and they do not like it."The standard variable tariff is the cheapest tariff. Now, what I'm hearing more and more of is that energy firms are sending letters and communications urging people coming off fixes to fix again because that's what we've always done before.
"They do not want you to be on the price cap tariff because the price cap tariff is at below cost and they want you to pay more money understandably."

They're middlemen, they're all gonna go bust, squeezed out of existence, and Ofgem will increase the price cap, there's no way the actual power generators who are picking up the middlemen 's customers can afford it. It's just market forces.

From The Guardian, another four go bust ...
Out of the four UK casualties Zebra Power had the largest customer base, and supplied 14,800 households with energy. Omni Energy supplied about 6,000 domestic pre-payment customers, while AmpowerUK had about 600 UK customers and supplied a further 2,000 overseas households. MA Energy had about 300 overseas customers.

Gas unit charge (per kWh): 2.7322p
the new best rate is
Gas standing charge (per day): 25.02p
Gas unit charge (per kWh): 4.1685p
All prices include VAT at 5%
So a massive 52.5% rise in my direct heating and cooking costs.

With regards to the companies going bust they are not actually supplying an essential service. They are merely playing an arbitrage game driven by us as consumers who want something as cheaply as possible and from which they take (or took) a thin margin. It was never a sustainable business model IMO. I got worried all those years when British Gas offered to sell me electricity. "Hang on, you don't generate electricity. Where are you getting it from?".Perhaps going forward the companies that supply 'essential' services should have to put money aside for a rainy day.

Like many Tory instigations, it is a broken model. Obny people who generate power should be able to sell it. Not fecking Tesco!
People pay them for their electricity or gas, maybe they only take a thin margin but they’re still making money out of an essential service.
