Good God! I had a wee moment there! I actually clicked on the link!!
Then.....I realised that I have a life, went to find it and closed the link down!
Seriously buddy (said in as condescending a tone as your Merry Christmas) you need to get out more. If I EVER get so bored of life that I feel the need to peruse Ducati factory accounts please feel free to pull the trigger.
The thing is that I do not know how they structure their accounts, nor for that matter do you, but looking at sales of particular bikes and the profit/loss from the sale of them and determining that the 999 was a failure is a bit voodoo. I am certain that Ducati are not the most profitable company in the biking world, and by the same token they are not the most tactful either.
The whole debate has been to discuss if Ducati are saying things that could have a detrimental effect on the whole brand. Not just 999 values. PR is a wonderful thing. It can be good PR and bad PR.
My feeling is that the comments made are singling out the 999 as a scapegoat. The truth is though it did win worldwide and it kept the brand in the spotlight, contributing to Ducati getting Brand of the Year. Now, as we should know, Brand is King. Its what makes you buy almost everything you own. Why risk the loyalty of the current customer base by attacking your very soul? What on earth will they gain by being so two faced?
Ok, so the magazines and comics say 1098 is great. Great! Lets rejoice in that. Something else will always be faster, handle better, blah blah blah......and that is fine. But I and many more don't buy the other bikes because of brand. We all want the reflective glory of winning where it counts. What matter then that Superbike of Performance Bike say its not quite as good as a YamaSuzuHonda XY1100RR ???
The 999 is a good bike. The 1098 should be better. That is evolution. Its natural. Things come and go. And then things come back again. Based on this theory the 999 shape will be back in 2016!
And from the bottom of my heart.......MERY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL!!!
