Ducati 1098R - For Sale

I think it may be time to let my 1098R go to a new home. It's far from standard although I have most of the standard parts. I'd like it to go as is, as I just haven't got time to return to standard and if I keep it, I'd have to put it back to the way it is.

The bike was one of the bikes pre-registered by Ducati UK to race in BSB. It was sold to the 1st owner in Jersey by Pro Twins who used it as his track day bike and spent a pretty penny on it. I bought it from him and registered it back in the UK on the original registration. Therefore it shows as one previous owner to myself, which is Ducati UK.

The bike is basically mint and I can't think of any marks of note on it.

JHP built engine with Pistal pistons
NOVA gearbox
Nemesis traction control
Nemesis QS - Race shift pattern.
Ohlins 30mm cartridge fork kit
BST carbon swing arm
BST carbon wheels
DP alloy coolant hoses
DP slipper clutch
JHP open clutch cover
Alloy tank. Increased capacity and custom painted.
Quick action throttle
Termignoni full system with slash cut exhausts.
Mosfet regulator conversion
LiPo battery
Superpole seat
Gilles ergo levers
Gilles rear sets
JHP clutch slave cylinder
Reduced mass flywheel
Waterless coolant

I have a load of original parts including the original exhaust with long carbon Termignonis. Fuel tank. Dash. ECU. Front fork internals. Gold forged wheels. A lot more that I can't remember.

Around 7,800 miles as it had a dash change at 6,000, which I still have. Currently showing about 1,800 miles.

The bike the way it is and all the original spares I have for it - £25k.

Is it a bike that could realistically do a couple of thousand dry miles a year, or is it mainly an ornament now?

It will do as much as anybody want to do on it. I haven't used it much, but it's not an ornament. I'm not sure if I'm going to use it much this year, possibly the odd time if I'm in the mood.

I had a friend (once) who always said, everything is for sale at the right price but in truth he rarely sold his good stuff as he knew he'd never find anything that good again.

So he deliberatly asked for a top price for it and on the rare occasion he did sell something and at the higher price, the buyer begrudgingly admitted he had bought one of the best examples in the U.K. and that is why he didn't buy any of the cheaper shoddy ones.

Robs 1098R is one of the best ones out there and with more history than the magna carta, so it comes down to that old addage, if you have to ask the price, you probably can't afford it.

If you can't afford one of the best 1098r's in the country pauly, can I interest you in a blinding 996r

With all the (great) non standard parts and it's history, it's a bike to ride, rather than leave under a cover IMO. I'm just glad it's not my advert, with the thread hijackers attempting to punt out their ordinary stuff.

So Paul, what exactly are your intentions? Have you contacted Rob to begin a discussion on a possible purchase? If he still has her when we downsize, I'll enter into negotiations with Rob.
I found you this
Ducati 1098 R - 2008 - Termignoni Exhaust - Very clean - All books and manuals | eBay
You could always buy a cheap 1098 and purchase two 'R' stickers!

Nearly every bike I've bought from dealers has been brand new, I don't tend to buy used bikes from them, because in most cases I reckon I can pay what they did. How much do you think Laguna paid for that 1098R?

Does this have a Vespa engine in it? 172.35RWHP 🤔 Couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, that.

John Hackett built mine. An arm lengthening 191 RWHP. 🤗

I would have thought its on a commission

Thats an elegant way of saying, astounding performance that brings forth, tunnel vision and the contents of your bowels into your leathers :giggle:

My 1299 is dynoed at 198 rear wheel bhp set up and mapped for a full termignoni system but it's still an easy ride compared to my 1098s.. The pani is super fast but all very civilized.. I can only imagine the extra 30 bhp in my 1098 👌😆

That's pretty fit. Only managed 193 on my '16 R. As you say though, its a different sort of delivery to the old motors.

My pani was 186 first time on the dyno stock from memory, my guy said he's never seen fueling so bad on any bike his words were it's like someone fitted the wrong ecu.. It's a different bike after mapping all the juddering and surging is gone now 👌

My 1299S didn't feel very quick compared to the Gen2 S1000RR I had before it, and the Gen4 S1000RR afterwards. Perhaps it needed mapping and gearing down to wake it up. But it had a Ducati warranty on it, and I didn't fancy invalidating the warranty. As for putting bikes on commission it's not something I'd do, if the place goes tits up or runs into cashflow problems, you could get shafted.

I suppose it's down to individual feel, I thought my S1000RR Gen 2 felt bland to the 1299 fantastic bike but very germanic 🤷‍♂️

Two entirely different bikes, I was aching after 2 hours on my 1299S. The cruise control, heated grips and ease of use mean I can do 3+ on the BMW. I've come to the conclusion I should have both.

1299S or 1098R, is a 1098R worth £5k+ more, if you actually want to ride it. And if you do ride it, will the gearbox/pistons crap themselves.
Pauly, if I had that much brass laying about doing nowt, and wanted to ride the fecker hard, without fear of braking it, order the new 2024 fireblade SP, i think its 214hp or 230 with race ECU, ultra electronics package, propa 200mph road bike.
If you want absolute beautiful elegance, then buy Robs 1098r and have bimble round lincs for the hoi polloi to gawp at.
I put the lotto and the irish on tonight, if I win, I'll be taking Rob for a pint tomorrow evening and to negotiate. 🏍️

As I understand it was the 1098 engined bikes that had a poor gearbox reputation, the 1098R is actually an 1198 engine so better gearbox - granted Rob's may be a tad over standard output but I'd happily take the chance (if he'd accept my generous offer)
