Actor's best film

Gary Cooper was in pain from his back and recent surgery on a stomach ulcer when he starred in High Noon. He also refused make-up in order that he looked under severe stress.

John Wayne was originally offered the role of Will Kane, but he turned it down, as did Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston, Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift.

Cooper won Best Actor Oscar for it, and Peck later said that turning the role down was the worst decision of his career.
