That’s just it though, they’re making a margin by buying low and selling high. Not actually providing any service as such. The question that needs to be asked is if a power generator (gas or electricity) can sell to xyzmiddleman co at a price that permits xyz to sell to the end consumer for less than the generator could and make a profit, how can that be?People pay them for their electricity or gas, maybe they only take a thin margin but they’re still making money out of an essential service.
Then you have the Trading floors of banks making markets, spot and forward, in gas and oil which has an affect upon the price the middleman pays.
It’s a bad side effect of a deregulated market.
