Yep, last time I just mounted the wheels in a swingarm and taped on some guides. This was way easier. Plus, it is cold in the garage now coming into winter! Hoping to fit tyres tomorrow or at least, over the weekend.

Right! So I applied the first coat of paint today to my frame swingarm, centrestand and chainguard. It was just an etch primer though. First decent day where I have had the time, and the sun was out today! Bloody tricky in winter, sometimes the temp never rises above 15deg! Brrrr! So I need to do a small amount of bogging before I put a coat of spray putty. What a painful thing, a frame is, to paint. Etch primer has this wonderful property where the runs disappear, to a large degree. Pretty sure there is no other paint that does that!
Most of this bike is red. Red, red red and more red. But I lack the experience to prep and paint it all in one go, that would be asking for trouble. So I may just experiment with these four things to begin with, I will make a temp spray booth and buy a spray gun and water trap.

yep it is a great work truck! The ranger has been the top selling vehicle in NZ for a few years on the hop. Outsells cars as well as utes. The other brands have pretty much all caught up now tho, just in time for a dino fuel ban!Have had it for 8yrs, and may keep it a while yet. It might see my career out.
Can carry 6m+ lengths of timber on the racks no problem and all my gear plus a 240v supply to run what gear I have that is not battery stuff.
I remember on my old Orange P7 mountain bike that it was nickel (not chrome) plated and had similar lil rust freccles. The advice at the time was scrunch a bit of tin foil in to a ball shape, not to tight, then spray the effected rust freckled area with wd40 then light work the area with the tin foil. It did work a treat but I'm not sure if it would work on the stainless exhausts?

Tin foil and coca cola is another one too. I did try the tin foil thing ages ago on some forks but once the rust has come thru and the damage is done, you are only removing the oxide not repairing the damage…
I may end up getting it rechromed yet but it really is not that bad…but I have a few other little bits that could do with rechroming…
Had another bunch of stuff turn up last couple of days. Today was a couple of things that have been very hard to find. The clutch/gearchange mechanism frinstance. Also the chain side engine cover. It is very specific to this model, and although I had a cover that would fit, it would have bugged me and been a fail for a rivet counter. It is quite fragile, has a small crack and is absolutely filthy.
Also, don't ask me how much money these bits cost! Frankly, it is fucking embarrasing!

Right so finally I am moving forward again! Got a bunch of stuff top coated so now I can start fitting swing arm, forks and wheels plus chain guard, centre stand and foot pegs.
Also painted under the tank and inside the headlight bucket so that when I topcoat these I only have to do the outside
