My empire of dirt...

We have had a few smashed panes of glass so I bought a glass cutter with the intention of reusing one of the panes I removed from the garage.. it went OK ish....
Never cut glass before although I did work for balham glass and joinery ( as a joinery installer) whilst living in south London so have seen it done hundreds of times...
Not as easy as they made it look!!!
Took me 6 Goes to get the 3 pieces I needed.. still don't know what I was doing wrong...

age to hack out the old putty, I'd forgot how much of a shit job that was, used to do alot of that as a painter back in the day. Also used to be really good at re- puttying. Not so good now!! Anyhu, jobs a good un, well, good enough as these windows are only temporary. Temporary could be a few years though so it had to be done, can't live with cardboard taped over windows in our bedroom..
Took 3 hours all up and cost 25 dollars for glass cutter and putty. No idea what a Glazier would charge but I'd imagine more than my time and 25 bucks...

Up in the hills, beyond the trailer and fence, there is a motox track.. weekend before last mist have been well over a 100 pickups and trailers go past ours each with a couple of bikes on board.. some of the neighbors are not so keen on the noise an stuff but personally I love it!!! There is talk about a speedway track opening here but judging buy the locals I'm not sure it will happen..
Shame as that would be awesome!!!!

Normally if I've cut old glass, I've put some oil on a cotton bud (cooking oil, bike oil, doesn't matter which) and run it down the line wher you want to cut. Then run the cutter down the line, using a piece of wood to guide it. Did you place the cutting tool handle bit where it peaks, under the glass and match it to the line before a strong push down?

If it's an older thick piece of glass, scribe with the cutting tool down both sides.

If your worried about bogans looking through your garage windows to see what you have inside, you could always use that misted window look on a roll. it's quite cheap

Used a bit of dish wash liquid not oil ( how I'd seen it done) and metal straight edge. Glass was thin, also quite old....anyhu...
I removed all the glass to reclad, just gunna go straight over the window openings for a few reasons.
Better security, quicker, more wall space for shelving and a bit cheaper to do as I don't have to buy all the filashings.
I can cut windows in down the line if I decide too. For now I'm gunna put a few clear sheets in the roof for light..

So me and b spent our first night in the "new" "house last night!!!
Got the keys 4 weeks ago but wanted to get a fèw things done first, mostly the fence and garage. Fence is done , garage not quite..
Wanted garage done to get our stuff out of the expensive storage unit and as we need to do loads on the house, we didn't want to put stuff in there.
In the end we thought fuck it, put stuff in house then move it again when garage finished. We were house sitting for a mate so there was no hurry to move but it was getting to be a pain dragging all my tools and trailer back and forth daily ( didn't want to leave tools in a vacant house) so we made the move!!!
Wanted the fence up first for privacy and a bit of security. It's not a bad area, as such, but iView attachment 91694View attachment 91698View attachment 91696View attachment 91695 didn't like the front open to the street and everyone seeing what we are up to/ tools laying around ect..
So anyhu some pics?
First BBQ last night! Lamb chops!!!!
Congratulations to you both, nice one Chiz.

So today I got busy on the garage. Had some paid work to do but I got fucked around a bit so decided to stay home and get on with stuff..
Started at 7.30 am and didn't stop till 8.45 am..
No, pm .... although I did have a beer or 2 around 4... got loads done. Got the rest of the bottom plates and studs done , save a few studs as I need more timber.. tomorrow at going well I will pull the 2 side walls in 150mm and the jack the shed up 300mm...
It's complicated but makes sense to me...
Anyhu.... also moved loads of rubish an the burn pile keeps getting bigger!
Photos are a bit random as I am too right now.. I've had a glass of wine or 2...

Yesterday I took another load of rubish to the dump. The first load was 540kg, don't know how much this one was as it was a different dump and they just guess the cubes... probably around 3 hundred kg I'd say... anyhu that's pretty much the garden cleared now save the burn pile and the old cladding ( which will go to the scrappy..
Couple of pics of the main road in town..

I also picked up the iron for the garage cladding, some more timber and a roller door that a mate donated.. I've ordered a few of the flashings, to go above the doors and the lean to that I'm gunna build on the rear of the garage. The rest of the flashings will have to be ordered after the cladding is on so as to measure em up correctly.
B's folks are coming up today for lunch so can only do a rew hours today and tomorrow we moving more shit outta storage so less time on the tools but hopefully towards the end of next week I'll be getting cladding on..probably not though....

Errr... no... much as I love my b, I don't do "marriage"...
B's sis has flown over from aussie to see her dad before he starts cancer treatment. He's 83 and not in a great way and the treatment might make him a different person apparently.. anyhu, she's bundling him in the car with mum and sis, telling him the are going plant shopping and driving him up here..
Don't know how he's gunna get on with a 2.5 hour drive each way but hey ho!!
Right, just heard they have set off ( an hour earlier than we expected!) So I got to do stuff!

Look at the fucken state of the top of my fence!!! I fist cut the top of free hand with my skill saw but wasn't happy with it, so I pinged a line, fixed a batten and cut again.. mint!
3 weeks latter and it looks shit! I know timer expands and contracts but I didn't thing quite so much length wise!!!!

A couple of years ago I put down 20 sq M of composite decking, all on plastic lumber. The idea was to have a life-long job which is maintenance free.

All was absolutely perfect, if I say so myself, then the summer came and the summer sun caused the boards to expand and then contract as they cool down in the evening. Needless to say, the boards are no longer perfectly aligned…I feel your pain😅
