The actual living pod is only 60 feet above the ground. However, if the chimney is of similar dimensions to the one Fred is pictured sitting on I can't see how there'd be much room within the shaft for anything but a very compact lift. Certainly no stairs. The estate agent is saying there's scope for all sorts of further living spaces, which would presumably mean adding more pods lower down as I'm guessing they've calculated that 60 feet above the ground is the maximum height for external add-ons. So you're buying a five story house (unbuilt..) with a redundant 180 chimney above it that will require constant maintenance.
The proposed pod is three to four bedroom and I bet it would cost more to construct than a similar sized building on the ground, plus the top of the stack requires extensive repairs which will be expenisve.
Really you're paying 300K for a vertical building plot on which you have to build living accommodation from scratch. You're not buying a convertable building. By the time it's all completed I bet you'd be well past the £1.5million mark.

I also wonder how they've calculated the structural loading and integrity of the stack once you start adding pods, weight and wind deflecting surfaces higher up for which it wasn't designed. It's only an 18" thick brick tube held together with lime mortar.

The height wouldn't bother me if I knew it was structurally sound, but it's going to need a huge amount of services back-up. What if there's a power cut and you can't use the lift? You'd need an extensive service building on the ground with a generator, water pump etc.

It will be wildly expensive to build. Truly a modern folly. It's a cool idea but not for me. It's not worth 300K IMO. 100 tops. It will be bought by a self builder with more money than sense or a developer who'll make a packet flogging it on.

Cottage at the end of "The Saint" film with Val Kilmer....looks like somewhere out in the countryside on its own...perfect.

Edit - i actually just googled it...apprently a set built at pinewood studios but i suspect thats the interior...
