Watch Thread

Not a big spend and unlikely to ever be a big earner but it is limited to 1,000 watches and for a good cause.

I recently bought the watch I had always pandered over, its a 2010 Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m. The new Planet Oceans just dont do it for me, this was always the one I wanted but could never afford. It has the calbre 2500 auto movement. The serial actually dates it to 2004 so it obv sat in a (local to me as it turns out) jeweller before being sold later on.
In used condition they run between around £2500 to around £3500 or even more, This was towards the middle really. It does have a couple of minor scratches on the orange bezel, that only a sharp photo or a loupe actually brings out, on normal eyesight, they are hard to spot - that said, I may still change the bezel if I can find a better one
It took my watch total up to (far) too many though. I gave a couple of Seiko's away to my daughters fella that had fallen down the pecking order at the weekend (The watches had fallen down the order not my daughters bloke lol) but I still have 8 or 9 left I think.

Another thinning may be in order at some point ;)

I saw an Omega Seamaster Aquaterra with green second hand and scribe, yesterday. I'm sorely tempted. 🥰

Go buy it if you can afford it, that is a nice watch. I had (still have) lots of Seiko's and one is similar to the P.O. I bought in appearance but nothing really ticks the boxes like the one you truly wanted

....now there is this other one I want too and that is a P.O. chronograph...but I had to sneak this P.O.past the wife and so far she hasn't spotted it (the benefit of also having a similar Seiko lol) ...whether I can run two past without her knowing remains to be seen :D :D

If I do buy it - I may never be seen again :D

In my 40's and 50's I wanted a decent watch but (divorce/kids maintenance/big mortgage) meant that they were out of reach.

When I was 60 (6 years ago), I was working for Money Shop (head office) and I got this from a branch which did pawnbroking - no box or papers, but I got staff discount of 25%. From £1800 customer price, I paid £1350.

As soon as I drove away from the shop with it, it stopped working.

Money Shop had their own watch/jewellery workshop in Nottingham, so they took it in, serviced/repaired it, and it has worked ever since.

Last week my younger son who lives in Boise Idaho, came back for a ten day holiday, and was wearing one of these which he bought new in Dubai four or five years ago

I'm not saying I'm stupid, I'm just saying I have bad luck when it comes to decision time

Rolex still beats Omega in the reputation stakes I think, even though I have always preferred the latter. That GMT master is uber-cool.

Before I joined Money Shop, I worked for Cash Generator (2011-2013), and their Manchester branch bought one of these for £6k (no box or papers)

They advertised it on the web for £12k, but couldn't sell it, so after six months, the shop manager sold it to a dealer for £7k.

The dealer called into the shop a week later to tell the manager that he had traced the original owner and it was Jimmy Savile

This Tag Aquaracer is for sale on F/B Marketplace Cash Converters Huddersfield branch and comes with 6 months warranty - looks like a decent deal especially if you negotiate a discount:

In relation to the Tag watch a couple of posts up: I also have a similar Tag Aquaracer. I paid a chunk more than the one advertised for mine though. This is the CAN1010.BA0821 with the black face.

I was offered 700 quid to trade in on it, so elected to just keep it at that.

The watch is currently asleep in my safe cos I have the Omega on my wrist.

Will you take £50 for it mister :ROFLMAO:

Nothing like what’s on here but I bought this probably 6-7 years ago in Halifax off a fella from his home address was his deceased dads watch and I did question selling it but he said he had a mass of items and he was selling a few items
It’s an automatic and I really like the small dimensions been a dwarfe

Cost me £225-£250 can’t remember exactly but I love the little bugger and literally last few days started wearing it and love the experience of looking at the watch rather than a phone 👍

You've got a good eye for a bargain ;)

More luck than judgment, I remember going in a freezing snowy night for it above Halifax from memory
You got a bargain - it looks to be one, but they are always worth more on steel bracelets.

Like the look of that :)

Retail it looks to be worth around 400 quid or so, even without box or papers. You would likely get what you paid back as a trade in I would think.
