I've made the decision to sell my Rolex Milgauss 116400GV. 🤔

Initial equiries about selling online are that everyone wants to take a big chunk for doing nothing. Chrono24 have made an offer about £3k below what they are advertised on their site for. I don't xpect a retial price and I'm realistic enough to know they have to turn a profit, I guess they think people are selling because they need the money and can take advantage. I just never wear it, is the truth and I'm re-evaluating a few things in life. I've worn it about 4 times in it's life since I bought it and it's out of the box mint. You see them advertised covered in scratches or polished, this is unmarked and as the day I bought it. A beautiful watch.

I don't fancy eBay at 13% Final Value Fee, plus the chance some scumbag will use the 30 day no quibble return to send the watch back in a condition they didn't get it. Plenty of tales about people sending stuff (phones etc), only to have the buyer claim that 'it is not as described' and sending a blatantly different item back, getting a refund and the seller with a problem.

Can't say I fancy a trip to any dealers to get a low ball offer.

I can see me keeping it at this rate. 🤷‍♂️

The times wrong, I'll give you £50 😜

I have an old Rolex Oysterdate/Datejust for which I paid £1350 about ten years ago (when I was working for a national pawnbroker who gave employees a 25% discount).

The bracelet strap died on me last year (I wear the watch daily) so I stuck a leather strap on it, cost+ £28.

My wife said today "How much is a Rolex leather strap Ron?"

So I looked on Ebay and this is a used one o_O

Well, after talking about my Rolex Milgauss above, another watch I don't wear and in my mind was less likely to have some low life attempting to rip me off, was my TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf Edition.

As I said, I'm re-evaluating a few things, so decided to sell it. eBay want a 12.8% chunk, but it's just sitting there, so what the hell, I think.

So it sells within a day and I get an e-mail from a lady saying it's a Christmas present for her husband and she finds it great I have all the paperwork for it. Anyhoo, 1.5 days later and no payment, which is always suspicious. I've never hassled her as people have things to do, but experience with bikes, cars and all sorts of things worth more than a couple of quid on eBay tells me there are lots of messers about. So I'm waiting for the 'Sorry, the cat jumped on the mouse when I was browing eBay, and accidentally clicked on the buy button' excuse.

Then I come in to a mail from her tonight. Her car needs a new engine, and at such a rotten time of year. What are the chances? Poor lady. I hope it doesn't ruin her Crimbo, engines can be pricey.

I cancelled the sale, (no point in arguing) and relisted it. 🤷‍♂️

Bit risky selling through eBay if posting

Someone thinking of dropping 4 grand on a timepiece prezzie should really have enough liquidity to be able to cover a replacement engine aswell...unless its a Bentley or something.

Didn't know that - do eBay open and confirm it's condition and that it's genuine before sending it on? 👀

Yep, their 'Authenticity Guarantee' takes care of that.

It's mainly for Rolex, due to the number of clones. Nobody is cloning these yet, to my knowledge.

Meant to post this a few weeks ago, got back from Italy to a call from my AD.
Waited a few years for this, hopefully all this wait list nonsense is calming down now.

Got a cap thrown in as well 🙃View attachment 116264View attachment 116265View attachment 116266
Is that a left handed watch? Just think it'd be tricky winding with the knob on the right side wearing on the right arm as pictured.

Is left/right handedness even an option? I don't know anything about these things...

Wow, it's a thing...

That was a tough read yeesh, it's a watch. I'm just simple. Guess I'll have to check one out to see what the big deal is.

I stopped wearing watches decades ago when I noticed how often I was checking the time instead of living the moment.

I do have a digital watch used sporadicly, when I remember to put it on at night to track my sleep.

I wear mine on the right, always have done.
It’s an automatic so doesn’t need winding unless it’s been off the wrist for a few days, and then it’ll need setting.

They do a GMt with the crown on the other side but it’s not my thing as I can’t get my head round the way it looks.

@WAYNE's wears is on the right too (it never stops) 👀

I have an old Rolex Date-just (not worth much and no box/papers) and I wear it every day - I scratched the crystal when bathing the last dog (not the one we have now) and brushed against the wall.

I don't see the pleasure of buying an expensive watch and not wearing it, and I don't understand the pleasure of not wearing a watch either - a bit like going out of the house without a handkerchief.

Mind you, I've always been a Tool (despite my father not being a Toolmaker) 🤪
