Get a buzz out of riding through some of Scotland’s best biking scenery with the Ducati soundtrack to accompany you and your fellow Ducati riders.

As in past years the Masher is aimed at any Ducati enthusiasts who want to sample a healthy dose of Up North biking . Not just any old run, it has grown in popularity over the last few years and has been a great social occasion as well as a good blast.

This year the destination is Applecross in Wester Ross and it is a two-day run, setting out from the Central Belt with an overnight stop at the campsite in Applecross then a ride back the following day. However, if you just want to come for the first day then no problem, ride along with us on the Saturday and turn back when you want but be warned, you’ll miss a chance to socialise on the Saturday night with a great bunch of bikers from the Ducati UpNorth community from all over Scotland and the North of England!

If you want to join the swatathon and come along with us you’ll find the details here

IF you do decide to come along, please complete the emergency contact form and bring it with you! You can download the form HERE

Applecross

Scottch, went over to Applecross in March. Fantastic roads for most of it but the last few are single tracks, very steep hairpins and lots of gravel. OK for us Multistradas but will be good fun for the sportsters.

Will try to make it. In negotiations with "her-indoors" now!

hmm yeah i have heard this - my friend audrey was actually crying riding applecross in the mist because the hairpins were so tight and slippery .. i feel quite scared about his now.....

I will be there on the Guzzi if nobody minds (not that I care:p) it is like a big sofa, it handles well and has long range, I can also sleep in one of the panniers if needbe!!!! :D

Oh, ye of little faith !. Under blue skies and scorching sun (thanks to Global Warming) we'll be thrumming along through some spectacular scenery on toasty tarmac - much better than these dodgy Arran roads - with a photo stop at the Bealach na Ba (per photo) before the final trundle down to the campsite at Applecross and food, beer, banter......Can't wait !

Applecross (the pass of the cattle) is one of those 'must do's', i did it on the XJR1300 in '05, at the top in the hair pins its a first gear, feet out ready ride, the left handers have to be taken on the wrong side of the road, but the view from the 2053ft? view point is worth it, then drop down the otherside and ride the singletrack road round the peninsular. As you climb up from Loch Carron i found myself leaning to the right because of the drop to the left  ride it with care and its no bother, just a little intimidating, try Hardknott Pass in the Lakes, Applecross is a walk in the park in comparison

Heres apretty good vid i found on youtube with a 'walkthru'

...I'm sorry Steve, your avatar is giving me nightmares, I'm gonna have to avoid posts by you!!!! ;)

I think the road has been resurfaced from when that was taken. I found the biggest problem was a couple of hairpins with the restricted lock on the bike and aching wrists on the way down when all your weight is forward! Interesting how the Gaelic seems to vary. A native Gaelic speaker told me many moons ago it was "Bealach Nam Bo" but seems "Bealach Na Ba" is being used by some now. (Bealach=Pass and Bo=Cattle). Quite a few of the Gaelic words are being changed/misquoted. (depending on your viewpoint) I've always used the former and I'm sticking with that.;)

it looks like a motorway - only three corners on the way up!

Interesting video, even if the commentary dramatised it a wee bit. Might have edited out the farting sounds, though, when they stopped for a view !.

Did the Pass of the Cattle both ways last May on the 748 in the rain. It's fine really. The only problems anyone would have are psychological as it's such a spectacular ride you can "psych yourself out" if you know what I mean. Trail the back brake on the way back down round the hairpins.
Worth every mile.
Hardknott Pass is tighter but only lasts about 500 yards. ;)

Midgie Masher

Hey Scottch, I made a reply on your thread the other day to say can make the Applecross run but it doesn't seem to have come up.
Wanted to ask about the set up - do we need to book individually at the camp site? Is everyone booking a wigwam (how weird is that - wigwam?!!)

Have been over to Applecross twice this year so far (from Aberdeen) and can't wait to go again.
Anyone else going from the glorious North East?

Hi Jon,

Dunno what happened to your post mate :dunno:

I'd suggest you book your spot ASAP, I have a sneaking suspiscion the wigwams are already taken though.

Look forward to seeing you there mate! I tried to go and stay at the Inn earlier in the year but it was booked solid :( The masher will be my first trip up that way this year and I'm really looking forward to it, fingers crossed the plans come together

Hi Jon,

I'm not quite as north as you are but I'll be heading over from Forfar. I'm looking forward to this one too. There might be some spare capacity in one of the wigwams that Dun members have booked, Borderduc might know.

I booked two of the three wigwams and the spaces in these are spoken for as things stand, so best if everyone makes their own arrangement to book space for a tent, the other wigwam or a local B&B (see website links on the sticky/poster in this section or in the calendar.

Only six weeks to go...:D

As DB says there are a few B&B but not many so if anyone is planning going and wants something solid over their head, don't hang about! If the weather for that weekend the way it is here today you will be sleeping in the open anyway!

db im so sorry im gonna have to pull out of this one - something's came up that i had planned and didnt realise it was the same weekend - therefore you can let my wigwam space go to someone else -gutted :(

Nic,

You naughty girl, not coming on the Masher !. Seriously, no worries, and thanks for letting me know - I'll get onto the accommodation committee and we'll sort out the wigwam space..

I need a wigwam

Hi all midgie mashers,
Could anyone tell me where we will be meeting initially on Saturday as I will be travelling up on the Friday and need to get digs realtively close by.
Also if there is a space in a wigwam I would like to claim it,,saves lugging a tent. Please let me know Ta !
Ian

Mr DB,

since talking to you at Knockhill the other day, I've discovered that I am in fact vacant (pretty vacant actually....!!!! :D ) that weekend, so I will keep it that way and get a jerry-can mig welded onto the Imola in time for that trip!!!
I haven't been up to much of late on the forum so I don't know much about times meeting places etc. can anybody fill me in otherwise I'll end up in Skye before I stop and miss the ice-cream parlour!!!!! :D :o

Mr DB, ........... can anybody fill me in otherwise I'll end up in Skye before I stop and miss the ice-cream parlour!!!!! :D :o

After your last attempt at navigation and ice cream buying avoidance, you will find at least half a dozen who are lining up to fill you in!!:p :D
I can give you a clue though...............if you end up in Stornoway you are too far West! Oh and West is to the left on the map assuming it is the right way up!;) :D

Sorry forgot to say left is the hand you use for your clutch!;)

YTC, Projectimola, friends, Romans, Ducatisti Nordi...

1 Wigwam space - Ranald (Neepdocker) has booked one and might have space, but I'm not sure. Another one is provisionally booked for the ladies and the other one is now fully booked. There are three in total. If there are no spaces and you don't fancy carrying a tent you could try local B&B (see calendar or the sticky above for links to local facilities)

2 Route and timings - the Masher Committee is meeting on Wednesday to work out the details and these will be publicised straight afterwards here on the forum, so please watch this space. There's still a month to go so that should, hopefully, give everyone plenty of notice. We've got a nice route in mind but if anybody has any must-do ideas feel free to make suggestions before Wednesday.

Watch this space.
