I forgot to menton, I completed restoration of Superlight #708 and sold her. I didnt want to do it but really needed the space in the garage.

The new owner should be more than happy given the attention to detail you carry out.
Thank you. You have no idea how ridiculously OCD I am and the lengths I have gone through to source the exact part that is period correct for this bike. Here is an example, the breather tank. I had to find one with the correct manufacturing date stamp. While US Superlights Mk 1 were made only for 1 year and released in 1993, they were actually released for the European market a year earlier in 1992. This took me a while to find. Its a freakin sickness!

They usually start the next MY production around September / October the year before so 1993 bikes could have stamps on individual moulded parts from early to mid 1992. If it had been stamped a couple of months later - say August - it would have likely found itself onto a 1994 bike. The stock control of parts could leave some parts on the shelves for a couple of years as they were a bit shoddy with their FIFO systems.

It seems to be a Ducati thing Laava's previous builds as Cat3's and even Exi's ten year project 🤭, what ever you do, don't mention to Robarano about his wall plugs not being level

18 months, and bloody hell; those wall sockets are well zig zaggy 👀 but his eye's are like this: 🤪 so he thinks they are straight 🤷‍♂️

Ok, this new year is starting off great for this OCD madness restoration. I was finally able to find the correct front fairing/headlight bracket for this bike. It seems Ducati made a slight change to the rearmost frame attachment point after 1993. Instead of a cylindrical shape, this attachment point was flattened for later years. You can see it clearly in the top of the first image compared to the same section of the second image. The later design is much easier to find (of course it is!!!)

Not much happening with the restoration as parts continue to trickle in. Today's delivery, a period correct enricher lever. Even though the part is still available from Ducati, the markings on the lever are not correct for a 93 Superlight. The first image is from a 93 Superlight. The second image is a new enricher lever.

For the italians building the older bikes, every bike was a poet's bike. The decal on the right looks to crisp and well cut. The one on the left would embarras even an indian in Mombai. So the original one is on the left

ha ha ha....I love the logic! That made me laugh. Whats up you guys on that side of the pond???? Did you collude on this? Every single one of you guessed incorrectly. The one the RIGHT is original!

The one on the left has the key number so the thought process was old school logic!! Nice one dude. (y)

Just received my last batch of hardware that got replated yellow chromate. Since this bike has turned into a bit of a restomod, I decided to replace all the hardware I could with parts from Belmetric. For anything they did not supply, I had replated. I did however, save all the original hardware so I can get replated one day in the near future.

When I rebuilt my 748 bought a plating kit and done all the bits I couldn't replace with stainless or ti in zinc, as I hate gold.. but I wasn't going for an original resto.the plating kit was quite cheap and it's easy to do.

Yeah, I thought about doing the same but frankly I am not skilled enough! Plus I really dont like messing with chemicals. I would likely blow up my garage.

There is not a great deal of skill involved! The kit came with comprehensive easy to understand instructions. I don't think there is too much risk of blowing anything up.
If there was a way that could happen, I would have found it!!!! I'm good at fucking things up!!!

For those of you like me who tries very hard to keep their bikes looking as OEM as possible, this may be of interest. I came across a company, Duc or Die making MOSFET voltage regulators that resembles the original OEM one, even with the correct connectors. I just purchased 2, one for my SP2 and one for my Superlight.

Tested the Duc or Die MOSFET regulator on my 1993 Superlight #669 and it seems to work fine. At idle (1100rpm) it outputs 13.3v and at 3000rpm it outputs 13.8v. I let the bike run at idle for about 5 mins and the regulator got barely warm to the touch.

One thing to consider is the bullet connectors are a little smaller than OEM so they don’t fit snugly into the wiring harness. That issue was easily fixed by taking some pliers to the female bullet connectors and squeezing them a bit smaller. Be gentle as you can easily collapse the connector and thus making it too small. I had to insert an Allen key into the connector to open it back up.

Anyway, so far so good with this regulator.

A couple of years ago I purchased some replica CRD decals for the keys and finally got around to applying them today. Any guesses which one is original vs replica?

Tbh I thought the same. The "R" in CRD, the skinny "DUCATI", and the crisp edges should have given it away. But there's even a chip on the left key decal and it even appears more worn than the original. Good one.

Just found this....as i get older i can appreciate the old stuff more and more - all my bikes are minimum 10 years old...the oldest being 1976. Its nice to see new stuff but, im finding myself in the old camp as i get older....Superlight looks the fucking tits....that being said i have a soft spot for resto mods...i love seeing old z1000's (for example) with present day Ohlins forks and corresponding rear shocks. Digital clocks, led's etc etc...so as the eye skates over the initial look it doesnt look any different but looking closer you see Brembo hpk's etc etc....anyway rambling looks great more pics...

This kinda stuff...
