I actually just checked. Seems every option requiring gas is bending me over...the smallest vehicle I can rent is a 10' covered truck for $4.400!!!!Alternatively, U-Haul should be cheaper....

You should buy your own truck and go into business at those ratesI actually just checked. Seems every option requiring gas is bending me over...the smallest vehicle I can rent is a 10' covered truck for $4.400!!!!
Now that kind of creative thinking is exactly why I love this group. At least here the breakdown coverage limits the number of miles a vehicle will be towed to, something like 15 or 30 miles. Surely it must be the same there? If you have breakdown coverage, add the bike, fly out there, push it outside the sellers house and then call breakdown recovery. Bike gets home, cheaper than a cheap thing![]()
also need a car right? Unless I get a car in NY, the cost of me driving my friends truck out there and back will be about $1300 in gas alone. Add in food, hookers, and blow and I think my total cost to do it myself will far exceed the quoted $1600.Buy a cheap bike trailer in New York, sell it back in San Clemente ?
Or steal a van
yeah, even with that outrageous transport fee this Superlight will cost me less then my other one and its in better overall condition. You sure buying a second Superlight was a good idea ?
My break down service takes you and your vehicle home, even if your 800 miles away at no extra costNow that kind of creative thinking is exactly why I love this group. What did you soak it withSpent the weekend soaking the fuel tank to remove all the rust that has built up over the years. Frankly I am amazed at how it turned out! Here are some before and after pics:

I used a product called EvapoRust. Its supposed to be water based and non-toxic. It took about 10 hours for it to remove the rust. I have thought about getting the tank coated but decided against it. I live in Southern California where it isnt damp at all. None of my other Ducatis with steel tanks have rust so I think I should be ok leaving the tank alone. What did you soak it with
are you going to use a coating?
So a bit of history. The previous owner binned the bike back in 1997 and decided it was too expensive to fix so this was his solution. Thankfully he had the good sense to keep the 2 piece mag Marvic wheels, top triple, seat unit, and tank. Sourcing the missing bits like side and front fairing, clipons, dash, misc bolts hasnt been too difficult. At this point I am still figuring out what odd bits and bobs I still need to buy. After that I can put the carbs, airbox, and tank back on and maybe fire her up!!!

Looking good!!Happy New Year gang!!! Apologies for the long time away. You know the usual excuses...life, work, kids, health, money, etc, etc. so I wont bore you all with the details. The good news is that I am back restoring this bike with a vengeance, as much as my meager earnings will allow of course. So what has happened since January:
Whats left:
- Got the bike back from the painter
- Stripped the bike down to the bare frame
- Replaced or replated every single nut, bolt, and washer
- Recoated the Marvic magnesium hubs and restored the wheels
- Rebuilt the carbs
- Rebuilt the forks and replaced the progressive springs for Racetech straight rate springs
- Replaced the fork outer tubes and bush with NOS ones I found in Italy
- Bought Ohlins rear shock
- Installed LEDs for the various idiot lights (I can actually see the Neutral light in daylight now!!)
- Replaced front and rear brake caliper seals
- Reassembled everything except the wheels
- New steel braided brake and clutch lines from HEL
- Fired her up! She actually started on the first try and now idles very nicely
But sadly since Xmas just passed I am low on funds again so I think I will be stuck here for a while. I will check back in another year folks. Just kidding. I should be able to road test this baby in about a month
- Install wheels and tires
- Chain and sprocket
- Voltage regulator
- Stainless steel rotors
