Great news indeed Ian, for me in that I did what I said happened and I don't have a percentage knocked off. We didn't hang around to see what happened after the magistrates had delivered their verdict, he was found guilty, we think it might be 6 points £250 costs + fine. It's possible he might appeal but unlikely. I think it will be in the Penrith weekly next week and then on the net a few weeks after that. I could phone Carlisle and find out on Monday if I remember:rolleyes:

Fantastic news....

I did say his day would come...;)

If you kept in touch with the Traffic cops who dealt with the incident give them a phone on Monday morning they will probably find out for you....

Anyway once again well done ....have a beer..

Good news, IMO it is attempted murder and he should get life.

Burn him for all the money you can Steve, may have to wait 3 or 4 years but hey it will be worth it.

Steve that is fantastic news!! Such a great result from the court system that lets so many people down. Really happy for you - have a large one from me

what great news steve - glad to see the courts can get it right for oncee. Like ian said this is a just reward for your months of resilliance and determination and at least now you can concentrate on moving on - literally!:D It ridiculous that although found guilty the guy is only getting 6 points and a £250 fine which must seem a bit of a slap in the face considering what you have been through but chin up - glentress is on the way!

nice one Steve, glad they got the barsteward in the end
As per usual though he tried to get away with it but i'd have banned him for life.
Hope this spurs you on to a full recovery and you'll be on the Monster for Glentress.

Great to hear they found him guilty after waiting this long, good on ya for being there Steve!

I have the number of one of the polis that attended, can pass it to you if you want

How's it going for yourself anyway?

My thoughts too after hearing his evidence! He told the court that his Range Rover was only 6 weeks old and he knew them really well as he had owned a few. He then told the court that he had timed himself pulling out of the junction and it took 4.5 seconds. Now his RR is the top of the range 4.2V8 Supercharged Sport with a 0-60 of 7.2 seconds so he must have had @@@@ poor reaction time and thinking time. When asked in court what size engine it had the response was 'I can't remember' The only guy in the country who does not know about the engine in his trousers!;)
The following is faction, part fact, part fiction

Mr Norris goes shopping for a new Range Rover.
'Good morning Mr. Norris' says the RR salesman, immaculately dressed in his friends of the earth green suit with pink tie 'How can I help you?' 'I would like to change my RR for a newer one' and looking across the show room he sees a new bright shiney RR 'ooh I like that one, how much is it?' That Mr. Norris is the top model and is a few £££'s shy of £75.000 tho I am sure we can find some extras to make it up a bit!' the salesman saidwith a big smile on his face, quickly followed by 'which model RR are you driving at the moment?' I'm not really sure says Mr Norris, go and have a look and I will have a look at this one in the showroom' Mr Norris is soon sat in the drivers seat looking like a kid in a sweet shop amazed at the number of knobs, switches, dials and levers  After a while the salesman searches him out and finds him shaking his head 'Is there a problem Mr.Norris? the salesman asks 'Its just that these have got so complicated since I bought that one, It's like the Starship Enterprise sat up here' Says Mr Norris.
The salesman spends the next two hours explaining what they all do and eventually Mr. Norris says 'I give in, I'll have it, how much are you going to give me for my old one? The salesman gulps 'I'm afraid we can only give you ten bob for it as it is very old and I have a friend at Beaulieu who might take it off my hands if I'm lucky' Ok let's go for a test ride! 'Do we have to' said Mr. Norris 'Of course we do, you want to know what it's like' say's the salesman. They get in and the salesman explains a few instruments and hands the key over, Mr. Norris starts it, 'Nowts appened' he says The salesman points to the tacho 'The engine is running it's doing 1100 rpm! you see this is so quiet you can hardly hear it, which for you living where you do is excellent as you will be able to hear those pesky bikers you hate so much! 'Pesky bikers, I don't see any or hear any until they have overtaken me'
Say's Mr Norris 'I hate em, always sneakin' up you when you least expect it!'
they get to a junction on a country lane and stop. Mr. Norris looks left and then right, 'what's this dial for' he asks 'thats the supercharger boost gauge' the salesman says Mr. Norris then looks left and right again 'what's this for? he asks pointing to a lever 'thats to change the amount of drive from the front to the back wheels measured in a percentage' the salesman replies Mr. Norris looks left and then right again and 'what's that button for? he asks pointing to one with 'S' on it. THAT is S for sport and if you press that, this thing goes like stink, so use it with care' the salesman replies. Mr Norris puts his foot on the accelerator and the RR lurches forward and at that moment a 911 crosses in front of them on the wrong side of the road horn blaring:eek: , 'My god what was that' he said 'It was a very lucky Porsche owner who nearly ended up in a hearse' said the salesman visibly shaken 'I tell you what, I'll drive back to the dealership, you just relax an' soak up the luxury'
Six weeks later on a lovely June morning Mrs. Norris asks Mr Norris if they can go and look at some picture frames so they jump in his still very new RR with quite a few of those knobs, switches and dials still undiscovered. They get to the junction of the Newby to A6 road. Mr Norris looks left and right and left when Mrs Norris asks 'what's that button for? ahhhhh that button .......... what is it for?........ he thinks to himself as he starts to pull out slowly.
They never did see those picture frames, well, not that day.:furious: :dizzy:

Those thoughts are not lost on me Paul! The only thing is that there may only be Tricolores left..........shame!
Realistically my knee ain't bending any more than it did at christmas with the frame on. The big difference is the swelling has gone down and I can walk without sticks around the house because if I keep the joints moving they are ok and don't hurt only with prolonged lack of activity they go stiff and start to hurt. The knee feels as good as the other one until I try to bend it further than it wants to go.
So if I get an op to make the knee bend and I return to work then the level of compo will be a lot lower than if no bendy knee which means change of job + lifestyle, no bikes, no skiing all of which is taken into account. That isn't an option I am going to accept:(

Whats confusing me is, and I will need to choose my words carefully, what this lambasting of Mr Norris has to do with anyone on here.

Ok, he may or may not have been to blame for the accident, but your 'story' hinges heavily on the things like the price of his car and your perception of his day to day. You try to belittle his journey as unnecessary. What if he was on the way somewhere important? I think its irresponsible to suggest that he did it deliberately. I would bet that if he could turn the clock back then he would.

But. And here comes the controversial bit.

We all speed. We all take chances. Sometimes your luck is in, and sometimes its not. Sometimes life deals us a blow that seems cruel. I would hazard a guess that on whatever run on whatever day the speed limit is below the average of the pack?

I personally think this thread has been done to death and is now delving into a territory of demonising Mr Norris. Sure, the Court has found him guilty. I got found guilty of speeding too. And it was in a 40 zone. Does that mean every parent who has lost a child to an urban speeder has a picture of me on a dartboard?

Perhaps a more positive thread, focussing on your return to health and mobility would be more informative.

I am tending to agree with you Ferg, Steve this thread is now here for all time, as Fergie says maybe now is the time to start a new Positive thread.
I went to the first post that I started earlier today and to be honest it upset me a bit, goodness knows what it must do to you.

Last Friday he got found guilty, let this thread now drop down the pages.

I agree with both Ian and Fergie in that this part of the story is over. All I was trying to say was that that the defence just didn't add up. I was going at less than 60 as I was waiting for the rest to catch up. Mr Norris started to come out of the junction when I was about 30' away. In court neither of them asked how I was doing or said they were sorry.
I have had lots of PM's throughout this and all of those have helped me cope with what I am going through and sometimes I get a bit low and tend to post as a result. You know who you are and I say a big 'thank you' to you, and you, you at the back and you at the keyboard, THANK YOU :)
So on that note there will be nothing more posted by me about the accident, court or any third party.
Anything I post from now on will be only about my recovery and eventual return to the fold:)

One thing that can be taken from this thread is that whenever you are out on the road and someone pulls up or is at a junction you are approaching, then its always wise to assume that that person hasn't seen you,be you be on a bike, car, van or even a Challenger tank. :D Ive lost count the number of times this has happened to me over the years on my daily travels up and down the country.

Onwards and upwards Steve...lets hope youre back doing the things you love sooner rather than later.....

PS Ive managed to scrape enough for that breakfast now I owe ya! ;)

I have resisted reading the thread from the start and I may only do that once I am better in my head as well as in my leg, I read all the posts when I was in hopital but it must be quite daunting reading it from the first to now with over 400 posts it will take around 6 hours to read them all (if my maths is correct and a average of a minute a post) indeed:rolleyes:

I did go through a phase of putting my finger over the horn at every situation but that was a few years ago.

Keep the the dosh in a safe place Davie, tho you will get plenty of warning!
