Steve 748

As you know, Steve748 had an interface with a Range Rover this afternoon on the A6.

It didn't look great for him, I was first on the scene and the Paramedics worked on him for a scary amount of time.

I have telephoned the Cumberland Infirmary at Carlisle and spoke to Nimue who is up there with him.

He is in 'Maple D' ward and is going to theatre soon, broken bone in his wrist and a bad knee injury from what I can gather.

So for anyone who was worrying, don't he will ride another day, not so sure about the 748 though !

Oh yeah, just realised I have dial up access on my work Lappy !

Faaaaak!

Thanks for letting us know Ian

Steve - best wishes for a full and speedy recovery mate!!!

Good man Ian - at least he will mend. iI've just got home at 1700! Plod on the A65 going mental so went via Hawes - except the Garsdale road is closed, diversion round via Kirkby Stephen - bloody miles.

I was last to leave the scene at 1400. Bike is well totalled. Only engine, Termis, back wheel and number plate left I reckon. Oh and right side fairing panel. Leathers cut off, boots wrecked too and helmet has a bad scrape. Recovered bike to Penrith, I think his insurance will cover retrieval to Harrogate. I'm just going to get changed and pop down to see his ex and drop some paperwork, bumbag etc. off at his place.

I will come and collect him from hospital when he is ready for discharge. Don't think Wendy drives. I'll get back here with more news as soon as.

What a bummer end to the great weekend.

thanks for keeping us informed ian, don't really know what to say, except get well soon steve
i agree with davie feckin' 4X4's

Update

Just got home at 1900, stayed with Steve till 1730, by then he was doped up to the eyeballs but still in some pain. Due to go in for surgery asap, looks like his knee is the worst. He's got pins in from a previous incident and the bad news could be that they have to fuse his knee joint slightly bent which will leave no movement. Best he can hope for is there is enough solid bone for a knee replacement.
I'll be getting in touch with his ex and between RockJock and me we'll get him back over to this side of the country when we can.
As Ian said, he's in Maple D (second floor) of Carlisle Infirmary. I'm sure visitors will be welcome and I can't get over there till next weekend now.

Bad news indeed, Steve's an enthuastic upnorth member and has taken part in almost all our rideouts and enjoys posting on here, lets hope the docs can sort it out.

We'll try and get up to hospital tomorrow or Tuesday, hopefully tomorrow if he's ok to have visitors. I'll take me laptop and store a copy of this thread on it , might even be able to get him online cos i'm sure he'll miss not having internet :)

Cheers for the update Ian. It did look pretty bad!!
Not much too say, apart from a speedy recovery Steve!!

I'm up that way next week, so will pop in and see him towards the end of the week, to give him time to come round a bit more. If thats possible!!

Was the only downer of the day really. The warning from my mate paid off about the A65. Coppers were pulling every bike, and doing checks on 'em!! Bloody discrimination that!!!:comp2:

My thoughts are with Steve and his!!!

Wish him all the best from Pete and Abby - it was quiet harrowing to see him lying on the grass verge with his bike smashed to pieces, and then having to direct traffic for ages until the ambulance and police turned up.
Absolutely top marks for Dseered for having the sense to run up to the crest of the hill to warn everyone else.
Get well soon.

Just to echo everyone elses comments really and get well soon Steve.

Just spent an hour or so with Wendy, she is obviously quite upset. I will be contacting his insurance tomorrow to get the recovery sorted, Wendy will be calling work for him and she will call the hospital for news tonight and tomorrow. She wants to visit and I will come up with her at the same time, but it won't be until later this week.

Everybody at the scene did a great job, marshalling traffic, clearing debris, helping sort Steve out - well done us.

The copper was very good about the whole thing. There was an independent witness who confrimed the car pulled out in front, that Steve had his lights on, was not travelling with excess speed and did take evasive action. it was a typical SMIDSY. Whilst not excusing the driver's action the copper said there had been several incidents of this type at that junction. The blind brows on the approach to the junction from both directions on this road are only about 150 yards from it, meaning late manouvres are almost inevitable - perhaps they will sign the bloody thing a bit better now!

I don't think there will be too much of a problem with the blame and the copper seemed to have a sound understanding of the situation. He said to me we had done a good job.

Get well soon mate, we'll have you up and running again - no matter how long it takes.

Nothing new to add just get well soon Steve, I have informed DOC about incident and we all wish you a speedy recovery.

Hospital called work for him Pete, ta.

So sorry Steve - yours was the last hand I shook before I headed south, after teasing you about how much Davide Tardozzi looks like you. Get well very soon - all our best wishes Henry & Jacqui

Fingers crossed for you mister, hoping surgery goes well and things look up. If there is anything we can do to help just shout.

Top marks to everyone who stayed positive and continued the ride, I know it was hard to keep moving at times, but I think it was the right thing to do.

Bi hug for Jan, Ian, Pete and Pete and Abby for sorting things out and taking care of Steve.

Wishing Steve a speedy recovery.

I met Steve at the Northern Rally last August. Top bloke and a real laugh!
