Re-Build Update

She's all wrapped up now, ready for the fight with the loom. I'm going to do a bit of research first though...see if I can get rid of some of that crap, simplify it a bit. If anyone has had any experience of minimising the loom I'd love to hear it

Niall,
I don't think that there is much of the loom you can loose. It needs it all to be functional. The secret is in hiding it behind the frame tubes but the difficulty is in securing it without having cable ties showing all over the place. I suppose you could use red cable ties?

I got to agree with Derek here, I used frame coloured cable ties, you could use red ones and they will blend in nicely.
I wish you weren't 125 miles away from me, otherwise I would pop round for a butchers!!

There's noooooo way any cable ties are going anywhere near my frame! How could you even suggest such a thing  No, re-routing off the frame is dead easy, it was the first thing I did with the 750.

I wasn't thinking so much cutting out, more shortening or lengthening to re-route under the tank. For example I'm only going to be running a simple speedo, so no need for the warning light wires, indicator wires etc to be up at the front...that kinda thing.

Scott...Brooklands thought about 3 weeks for the tank and cowl.

i hate the look of the ties too, when i had the electric probs with mine i got rid of all the rubber strap things that were everywhere and hid the loom, fixing it back away from the frame, even on the 996 where you dont see that much frame it looks so much neater

Just had a look at the pics mate, the bike looks awesome, but how the fecks the tank gonna sit over that nice big spangly bracket  :D :D

Tam,
You've been awfully quiet for the last week or so. Is that you just recovered from yer New Year swallie then :D:D

Not really had much time this week, but a couple of things to add...

  • Fully adjustable Showa forks (mint from a 748)
  • Lower yolk powder coated (Aerocoat)
  • CycleCat top triple
  • CycleCat clip-ons

bloomin' 'eck, are you keeping a record on the vast sums of money you're spending on this project? :)

why is there a pot of vaseline and a pair of discarded rubber gloves in the background? ;)

Well you know I said I didn't have much time this week...

Up until recently I thought of myself as being pretty normal, kind of proud that I wasn't into tools, machinery etc...but...see now that I've discovered the pure bliss that is slowly screwing a brand new titanium bolt into an untainted, virgin piece of billet aluminium :faint: :p

Niall,
If that was my bike I'd be much happier with the front wheel spindle through the fork bottoms to keep them from twisting on the front stand. You don't want it ending up as a pile of bits on the floor do you?

I fully agree with you. I hate it being on that thing full stop! The number of times I tripped over the handle of the stand today

I don't have the internal nut that the spindle screws into though...it's currently on order. It won't go all the way through, but do you still think I should put it in anyway?

I took one look at your arrangement and thought the same as Derek. Do you not have a length of metal that would go all the way through? Alternatively I have a mate building a Monster special and he has tie straps around the yoke and he has secured the other end to a beam in the roof which takes all the weight. Have you anything on your ceiling you could tie on to? You don't have an engine hoist that you could use?

Stop it, you silver tongued devil!

No beams I'm afraid...I could jack up on the starter motor though...would that be be strong enough to sit for a few days? I do have the original 17mm spindle, not much use in a 25mm hole though heh :( Should I put through the new spindle as far as it'll go anyway?

OK, you've scared me now :D I've jacked it up on to the starter motor, just enough to take the weight off the forks from the fork stand. They're now hovering about 1mm from the prongs. I've also taken a rubber mallet and hammered the spindle through.

sounds like your letting it turn into a perversion there young man ;)

Had a bit of time today, so I managed to get the re-wiring/routing finished. Also wired up the Motoscope MINI (that squint little black thing on top of the triple...still need to make the brackets for it).

There’s also one or two other bits and pieces since last time including...

  • Spiegler brake and clutch lines
  • Rizoma fluid reservoirs
  • Pazzo levers
  • Brembo GP radial master brake and clutch cylinders
  • S&P rearesets/hangers
