Raid the Lakes Ride

ride out

Myself and hedge hoping to make your ride pete. Just trying to find some rubber that dosnt make me sell my other kidney. We tried to meet your last run but sometimes there arnt enough hours in the day, any how come on chin up,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It does make you aware however (when you get hassle like this with what should be a fairly painless procedure) that certain very popular characters from even the recent past have deserted these pages - they can't all be wrong. Or right? Can they?

It just seems to be ever more burdensome trying to enjoy the site these days - I'm ready to ditch this ride at the moment. Especially as my last one was so ill supported as well. Perhaps it's just us English who can't get it together - the Scots seem to do it.

who are these people who have deserted these pages??? let me know, name names!!!!

I know one, he lives next door to me. A soft southerner but has a very nice Ducati!!!!
He told me that he had rejoined under a sudonim (I can't spell my brain has stopped working) and was rejected and told that he wasn't welcome anymore.
He was joking right??

And you're so accomodating and welcoming - i can't understand it either!

As I've explained before i reserve the right to approve or reject membership, I'm not getting into a public discussion on whether that's right or wrong nor am i prepared to confirm or deny if any member has ever been rejected. What i would say is that if i was to do it the decision would be taken considering all the factors and impact approval or rejection would have on other members and the running of the forum.

As i said i'm not debating this, the rules exist for a reason and hopefully members accept that given the time and effort i put into creating and running this I'm hardly likely to make any decision without a lot of thought and consideration of factors others may not be aware of. I'd ask that you respect my rights to do so and don't use it to cause me problems, i've got enough going on without getting drawn into any debates here.

As a relative newcomer on this forum you have missed much of what has happened over the years so perhaps your comments are at best described as misplaced and I can forgive you for that. But you would be better off not operating your mouth until you have put your brain into gear. Read on, I'll keep it simple.

I have organised many many rides and taken part in many many more. My rides are/were always well supported and well organised too. Start times, start locations, en route pickups, fuel and food stops, route maps and so on. I have organised rides not just for my mates, not just for DuN, but for Ducati Leeds as well.

I support other people's efforts enthusiastically and take part in their efforts without trying to influence what they are trying to do, I become a follower then. Unlike my efforts recently where threads were hijacked, other "suggestions" for route were made and rides were not supported by those on here for whose benefit they are generally put on. I frequently used to bring a sizeable group to the monthly Whoop Hall meets too. I can ride by myself anytime.

However, I am pretty gregarious and do like to ride in a group. I know the roads in and around Yorkshire, the North of England generally and in Scotland, both the borders region and much further north. Many people only do their "standard" runs and I know most of them welcome the diversity and entertainment my rides generally bring. It has been said many times and I have been thanked for it.

It has become ever so obvious around here that the forum is now "Scottish Ducati Club and the upnorth lot" rather than how it started out, Gizmo might enlighten you on the history, but I have been around here since the very early days, having been advised of DuN's formation before it actually happened.

It was a very eclectic mix but now the majority of the traffic is Scottish. No problem for me, I have made many friends from the times we have shared. But the question still remains "what about the english?".

Several years ago I organised the Dalesman's Dash, it took in about 200 miles of the best riding from the northernmost tip of Yorkshire to the East coast and around. Only four people turned out - and they were ALL from Scotland! Make of that what you will.

I tried to re-organise Raid the Lakes in 07 but that never was allowed to come to pass.

So please don't come the clever @@@@ with me and assume your first impression is correct. Judge when you have the facts, not when you have an "opinion".

You of course will be welcome anytime on my rides, as are any other members (or mates of members) on DuN/SDC. Here's to the Summer, the March Mega, the Ripper, The Hizzy and hell, even The Masher! :D

You're right - i am a 'relative newcomer' to this Ducati scene. You're continued warm welcome into the fold is greatly received!

Pete, people make decisions on what they see and read and should not need to know any history, if Wilko felt that he wouldn't take part in a ride because of the attitude of the organiser i wouldn't look at the reaction I'd look more closely at how and why he came to his conclusion.

As i said earlier events need to be diverse , if we all want the same things life gets boring so any attempt to organise an event should be appreciated.

There has always been a problem getting people involved south of the border, I'm certain Ray can tell you how hard he worked for the DSC and the results. I remain to be convinced that rideouts are the answer for mass participation, the draw for the majority is the social aspect not the riding, 2 day events like RTL was and the Masher is will always be better attended.

A couple of years ago one of our biggest group events was an impromptu lakes ride organised less than 10 days before, all it took was a bank holiday with some sun to get 25 bikes out, we didn't even have a real plan, just met at windermere and headed off. Upnorth provides the facility for us to do that or just stick a post up as Wilko just did where smaller numbers can meet. TBH i don't care whether an event has 2 people or 200 all that matters is folk get what they want from it. Success can't be measured in numbers its about whether you have a good time.....

RTL number 2 ?

Peter Ive only just found this on the site.
Is it still going ahead?
If so I would be more than happy, as before, to guide a group around my local roads.
Ive got a few other roads to look at (some of the road surfaces on the original RTL are well past thier best now and I wouldnt ride them on a motocross bike!)
If its happening please let me know.
Pete Mc

err.... yes and no. it's a different format, basically just a ride out. You'll maybe remember there were obstacles to organising "Raid the Lakes" in 07 and subsequent years. I am just using the ride name as a nostalgic tag!

Don't look back for too long Pete, you may just forget to check which way your heading mate...

 :tea: :bump2:

Carl (god I hope that's the right spelling :D ), why don't you see if you can join us for even a part of the Masher? It's a great event and not to be missed. There is already a spare place for Steph at the hostel.....:D

Now then.

I might be up for some of the ride - i'll meet you at Devils but might split at some point to see the parents (they live in Cumbria).
Weather permitting!

Steph might struggle to keep up - but an offer like that be hard for her to turn down!!!!!:p

Can i have my ice cream at Ravenglass!?!?!?! :D

Ok just to get everything tied up for MY rideouts. I would like each rider to complete a form with some personal info on it please. Just in case……breakdowns or tumbles can and do happen.
All that’s needed is:

Forum User Name

Your First Name

Bike Reg. No:

Mobile Phone Number

One ICE Contact No:

Name of Contact:

2nd ICE Contact No:

Name of Contact:

PRINT ALL THE ABOVE OUT or WRITE IT DOWN

on a piece of paper and hand it to me before we start the group ride. It will be handed back to you at the end of the ride to protect the information from misuse. If you don’t collect it I will destroy it afterwards.

Riding in Groups:

Nobody will be left behind, no matter how slow they ride. How? I will give you a summary and a map.

PLUS:

Unless you see otherwise continue in a FORWARD direction on the road.

ALL junctions, roundabouts etc. where there is a change of direction WILL
Be marked by the rider in front.

Each rider therefore MUST know who is behind him/her and WAIT at a designated point when change of direction is needed. Even if the rider behind is a long way behind YOU MUST WAIT for them.

The leader will indicate by pointing at the ground when a junction etc. needs to be MARKED by those behind. Each rider to slow or stop until the next rider gets there. It’s easy really.

If you have to overtake each other then fine, just be legal and careful.

If separation occurs and you are lost, TEXT in to me and give your location and the TIME. I will get back to you when we next stop.

My details will be in there too. Whether or not I crash and die anyone can grab the details. So long as I don't get incinerated. Mind you if I do, do I really give a flying @@@@? NO!
