Project Superspurt

Whats up with yer exhausts? if they need a mod cut and mark the link and I will weld it back up or drive down and I will fit to the bike. Looking very tidy by the way.

Whats up with yer exhausts?

Scared to take a drill to the carbon tube! :o :D

They are not sitting right and I will probably be in touch. The cans should follow the line of the bottom of the seat unit but they don't. I'll mess about with them a bit more and see how I get on.

Cheers for the offer

I'm not fitting rearsets as such, but replacing the folding pegs with some sporty race ones. Cue a bit of milling on the lathe;

The other side will be made from scratch as it just needs to be a peg only - the brake gubbins is to be mounted on the engine like a 748/9xx

Sod all that trying to hacksaw 12mm alloy in a straight line, filing and so on though; I'll see if I can get it laser cut for a casher. A lad at work is going to do me a wee 'Inventor' drawing that will run on the laser.

They came with the Regina joining link. You clip them over the top of the o-rings before pressing the plates together, ensuring that you press them to exactly the correct gap - genius!
I knew they looked familar but I couldn't remember where I'd seen them. I had a pair that came with a chain, but it wasn't Regina.

White

The bike was always going to have white tank and bodywork, black numberboards. I had my heart on 'sparkly white, the same as a Speed Triple' which has a Sunday name of 'Crystal White' and is a 'pearl' 3-coat process to apply.

The WHOLE INTERNET and EVERYONE (including painters) that I have mentioned this to says DON'T DO IT.

Cost of materials, cost of process, risk of needing re-done during application (cost), all panels to be done at same time, can't retouch, Ok Ok I'm convinced, but it does look ace when it's done.

So I'm not going to spoil the ship for a happence worth of tar, but just as Shorai battery* vs perfectly serviceable lead-acid sitting on the bench, I don't have money to burn (far from it!).

Does anyone know a good shade of white or can give some artistic input**? I know what I like but don't know til I see it.

If you can't be bothered scrolling back up the thread, it has red frame, black wheels, black clutch and belt covers.

* I'm going to get one one day. I have actually held one. It's like anti-matter.
** i.e. Forget the white, how about this colour. (Not black)

Get it done the way you want:)
I painted my Triumph Legend the same colour as the speed triple white. It is more awkward to do but definitely worth it.
Cost of materials shouldn't be excessive. I got my paint mixed by a local supplier. Used white basecoat, then the white pearlescent, then the lacquer. It's the pearlescent coat that is more awkward to get right, but any painter worth his salt should be able to get it right first time.
Why spend a lot of money, then compromise on the paint job:D

I agree :)
My pearlescent white looks ace in the sunlight

you know yourself that after all this time and emotional investment (sounds arsey but it's true) you wont be happy unless it 2 steps over perfect and just what you want - so do it the way YOU want it.

Pearlescent white mmmmm oh just imagine that cheeky come hither glint in the Angus sunshine

The more I search for my 748 rear brake lever, the more convinced I am that I perhaps sold it :o Not giving up though!

Still, found some other good stuff, and the attic is a bit tidier.

Progress, as ever, is slower than I would like. I have a few days off but the lure of the hot weather and a new Michelin is strong!

Rear brake lever sorted  Though now it seems that the pushrod that I have is too long and I have a return spring from a late model that my 'old style' clevis pin won't entertain - who would have thought that they would change a clevis pin  This is where the lathe earns it's keep ;)

Talking of the lathe, I made a wee thing from some hex 'free machining' stainless; M10x1 at one end, M12x1 at the other. The M12 will attach the tank in place of the fuel tap while the M10x1 will take a banjo bolt so that I can run a banjo from the tank to an inline tap so that I can switch off the fuel without removing the seat and lifting the tank.

Bikini Fairings

Those of you blessed with elephantine memory will recall that I wasn't happy with the Ricambi Weiss single seat unit and sold it on at a loss while forking out a Kings ransom for an OE FE single seat.

Their bikini fairings are not much better. They dinnae fit!

I dummied up a wee bracket yesterday so now need to wait on the material arriving for the production item :) It's the bracket equivalent of a 'half-link' neither one thing or another. Not happy, but once done no-one will ever know (apart from you lot).

Once they are made I might need to get the itchy fiberglass out and make some sort of invisible mounting to support the rear of them as they look like they will at worst flap about, at best vibrate.

This is when I envy those Harley builders off the telly - buy a bit, bolt it on. Stand back and admire.

The real scunner with this is that I was hoping to at least hawk the bodywork round a few places for quotes this week, but that is out the window. :(

I thought that I was maybe wimping out getting the RHS footrest hanger laser cut, but after an evening of cutting, drilling and filing 12mm alloy plate I'm getting fairly comfortable with returning to 'Plan A' :o
