Inverness to Glasgow is certainly a lot further than to Aberdeen and will take double the time.
I purchased all my older Dukes from Alvins, my first being in '97 when they were in Springfield Street, Leith.
They sold that site for flats and apparently did very well out of the deal.
The new premises they rented at Seafield were dreadful and i was told were also very expensive. I was generally always pretty pleased with the service but then they merged with Moto-Cal - DISASTER. all remnants of service went downhill and i found the new director really arrogant.
My ST3 which i had then was getting a new battery and someting else fixed, some under warranty but again a bit too much like hard work argueing with him when they shut down. I rescued my repaired bike before the doors closed forever.
I had already made up my mind to deal with Glasgow by then and have been very pleased with purchase and service although a courtesy bike would be great for returning to Fife when bike is left for service.
I would definitely think there is not enough business for a solus dealer in Aberdeen but as part of a multi franchise would probably be fine.

I will probably still go to DG even though i live in Aberdeen. basically because they have been the most honest and best dealer i have delt with and also it would be an reason for a wee run on the bike which is always good ;) plus with everyone on here who have nothng but good things to say about them whats the point on risking going somewhere else that your not sure about :dunno: also i need to try these cakes that everyone speaks about!!

I think they "assume" there's good money in Aberdeen.....

i dont understand what you mean here  as there is good money in Aberdeen due to all the jobs offhsore and onshore with the oil and gas companies

It would be great to drop the Duc off in ABZ when I go offshore & pick it up on my return fully serviced, but in all honesty I will still be heading West from Dundee to DG to get my bikes serviced.
Cannot fault DG & you always get a warm welcome & a blether when you are down there.

I may be jumping the gun here and would love to be proved wrong, but if you are servicing and selling different makes of bike then 'jack of all trades , masters of none' springs to mind.

Aberdeen already has one of those its called Shirlaws ;)

And for your info Mr Dash theres a lot of money in Aberdeen or as a filthy contractor I wouldn't work there during the week and go home every weekend with a bulging wallet :p :lol2:

I don't see why not being a Solus dealer is a problem.
There are dozens if not hundreds of dealers in that position throughout the UK and the service they give has nothing to do with the number of Franchises under their belt.
It does have everything to do with their enthusiasm for the brand and the skill of the staff in sales and servicing.
DG have that but that is not because they are a Solus dealer but because they are enthusiastic and skilled.
Shirlaws had problems but it had nothing to do with being a multi-franchise.
I tried to buy bikes from them over the years and that was NOT the problem.
The new dealer presumably has put together a business plan that persuaded DUK to give him a franchise so until he proves he is not worthy of it I reckon he deserves at least the benefit of the doubt and whilst loyalty to DG is a fine trait it shouldn't be at the expense of knocking someone prepared to put their money where their mouth is.
I hope that the new dealer provides the same enthusiasm and skill as found in DG and if that is the case I sincerely hope BOTH dealers flourish.
I am likely to be in Aberdeen shortly and will make a point in visiting if I have time and will point them in the direction of DuN and the SDC if no-one else has done so before then.
Hopefully they will come online to say hello and give us an insight as to how they see things developing.

It's a valid point, easy to be loyal to DG when you live closeby... I can sympathise with the northern guys like 239 and project ed. What happened to the dealer in Inverness, at the roundabout next to the petrol station

ProBike.

Closed a year ago. There were all sorts of rumours circulating prior to them closing. Virgin buying them, new Ducati dealer etc. Location was ok but again down to management/staff enthusiasm IMO.
Marr (Yamaha) closed the year before. Never seemed to be any "buzz" about the place. They have/had a connection with Perth.
Now Mitchells have Inverness and North to themselves and seem to be going well. Kevin that owns/runs the place is there ALL the time and is enthusiastic and a lifelong keen biker. Coffee available all day and everyone made to feel welcome even if only buying a spark plug.
Was in last weekend with snow on the ground and bikes were still flying out the door.
Several franchises but it is not holding him back.
He has a couple of Ducatisti as staff and last weekend I spotted 2 851's, an ST2, ST4, 748 Red Bull rep, Cagiva Gran Canyon, 900SS and a 999R for sale secondhand. (think there were a couple more I have forgotten:o )
Seems to be able to price bikes well with trade-ins etc and seldom hear anyone grumbling about what their bike was worth.
Winning formula.

I think it was Mitchells that we stopped at during the Breast Way Round run. Hot drinks and cake for everyone and a hefty donation. excellent people.:D

There were a few 2nd hand Ducatis in when we were there.

Hello From Coachhouse M/cycles

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to give everyone a brief introduction to Coachhouse Motorcycles.
As I’m sure you are all aware, we have been appointed Dealership status for Ducati for the North of Scotland.
Having read some of the comments and posts left on the forum over the last few weeks and months I thought I could try and answer some of your questions and maybe eleviate the fears some might have .
Firstly I would like to congratulate Martin and all the staff at Ducati Glasgow for achieving Dealer of the year in 2008 .A thoroughly deserved reward for all their hard work and effort over the last few years, and secondly, thank them for all there fantastic help and support over the last few weeks and months which we have found invaluable.
Ducati saw a need to offer a service centre in the North, to target potential Ducati sales that are lost to the other brands.
This in no way reflects on DG and the service Martin provides for his existing clients, and the agreement is such that the Ducati product can be serviced from any service centre, irrespective of the location. This should provide you, the end user, an alternative, which we are hoping you will see as a positive step towards seeing more Ducati products in the North.
I understand that some members may have a concern that we at Coachhouse may create a problem to DG in the current economic climate, but having spoken to Martin personally regarding this, we are both in agreement that Scotland required another Ducati representative to cater for the existing and future Ducati customers in the far North of Scotland and in doing so strengthen the Ducati brand allowing us both to concentrate more on providing a PREMIUM service for THE PREMIUM brand.
Our shop will sell ONLY Ducati’s and cater for Sales, Service, Clothing, and Spares. Our Technician is Fully factory trained and very well respected in the North East. We also have a Dyno centre on the premises to allow us to offer set-up and tuning facilities. Further more we have a fleet of hire bikes which may in the future also consist of Ducati’s subject to demand.
As I’m sure you will agree we have something for everyone

Another point well made was our lack of web impact which I would also like to address.
Our existing website was launched as a (something rather than nothing ) option while we awaited an official decision from Ducati. Our new site is now under construction and should be ready to go live by mid-February.

We will also be having around that time an official open day which I would like to take the opportunity now of inviting all Ducati Up North members along to. An official date has yet to be decided on but will be posted in due course so please watch this space.

Lastly I would like to thank Scott Charles at Ducati Up North for welcoming us to the club and extend a courtesy that if we can do anything to support the club in the future to please contact me directly.

Thank you all for your time and patience.
Have a great biking year

Was in Aberdeen today and popped into Coachhouse for a look to see what was going on.

Met Dean, who posted above, and Kenny the ace mechanic who gave me a guided tour of the premises.

Both first class guys and apart from being long time Ducati fans are extremely enthusiastic and both have a great sense of history concerning the Marque.

Spent ages blethering and even managed to steer the conversation onto bevels (what a surprise!)

Workshop is in the process of getting fitted out and they also have a rolling road on the premises which Dean mentioned in his post.

Bikes on the premises when I looked in were a selection of the current line up and a few choice clean pre-owned models.

A very nice red Sport Classic greets you as you come in the door and I suspect that won't sit there for long!

Dean said he will be posting on here to keep us updated on developments and probably will also advise Scott to keep the SDC membership briefed.

All in all a very friendly, relaxed and professional feel about the place and from the interest shown so far I am sure they will have every success.

Hi there i am new to this forum, i went in past Coach house motorcycles in Aberdeen today to have a look at there range of products as i am thinking of buying a 696 (first Ducati).
Only to find a notice on the door stating that due to the death of the company director the business has now gone into administration, i was wondering if anyone else knew of this and have any more information on the subject.

Many thanks Geoff P

I'd seen that mentioned on another site, terrible news.

Quote:
Coachhouse motorcycles wishes to anounce the very sad loss of one of its directors. Dave Forsyth sadly passed away peacefully in ARI on Wednesday 28th after collapsing at his home the previous evening.
A loving family man and greatly respected local buisnessman, was well liked by all who were lucky enough to have met him, and will be sorely missed.
We at Coachhouse extend our greatest sympathies to his family and friends
.

Terrible to hear this.

My thoughts and prayers are especially with the family at this difficult time.

Very sad to read this awful news this morning.

My sympathies and thoughts are with all family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.

Coachhouse motorcycles update.

Hi all,
I thought i'd take the time to keep all of our customers and biking community abreast of the developments over the last two weeks.

THE STORY SO FAR.

Im sure most of you will have heard by now about the very sad and tragic loss of one of our Directors on the 28th Jan. due to a brain haemorrhage. David Forsyth was the principal driving force behind the Coachhouse leisure project and he will be greatly missed. As a direct result of his passing the remaining shareholders took the difficult decision to put the company into immediate administration.
Coachhouse motorcycles closed for business on the afternoon of the 4th Feb.
I have been in contact with all our existing suppliers and customers who have work/parts/new bikes outstanding and i'd like to thank them for all their emails and phone calls of support and sympathy over this difficult time.
I would also like to thank Martin at DG for stepping in to help with our Ducati customers.

THE FUTURE.

In the period leading up to today i have been in close talks with Ducati expressing my interest in continuing on with the dealership under my direct ownership which i am pleased to inform you looks very positive. We would be looking to continue on (where possible) from the premises in Wellheads Place in Dyce. Our factory trained technician Kenny McShane has pledged to continue on with myself and Ducati which would allow us to offer you the customer, the same very friendly, professional service as before.
Coachhouse motorcycles had not been trading for long, but in the short time that we were, one thing became VERY apparent to us, your delight in the fact that whether you rode Japanese or Italian machinery there was now a long overdue professional alternative in Aberdeen for you to take your bikes for servicing , repair, MOT prep, coffee, biscuits or just a general BS!!
Rest assured we are working hard to be able to offer everyone this service again and will attempt to keep you up to speed with any developments as they happen.
On behalf of myself and Kenny we would like to thank you in advance for all for your patience and support in the coming weeks.

Best Regards

Dean Morrice
