OK...forgive the crappy mock ups, hopefully they're good enough though to give you a rough idea of the look I'm going for.

I've narrowed the design of M900 down to two possibilities. The only real differences between them are the colour of frame (and shock spring), and the clutch pressure plate and spring retainers.

One frame is red, the other is meant to be orange (think HM Plant orange).

If I go for the orange frame then next year I'd probably powder coat the wheels satin black.

Any thoughts? Perference? OK, so you may think they're both pish, in which case just tell me which you think is the less pish of the two :p

hmm, red frame looks too "factory S4R ish" for me, not special enough for a special :)

I was hoping someone would say that...I'm pretty keen on going the orange route. Plus I won't have to buy new leathers :p

orange is fine by me :) but there again i've got this

and want this :)

'Fraid I disagree Gizmo. I prefer the red frame, its a strong colour that stands out and highlights the frame. I think the orange will be too insipid on this set up, especially with the white tank, even a white frame with the orange body colour would be stronger i feel.
Are you going with a plain tank or detailing it with logo's or graphics?

a good orange stands out just as much as a red, we powder coat our MTB frames bright orange and in photographs in woods or bad light they jump off the page, red never does. we've got one version that has an orange base with a slightly metallic lacquer over and its really nice. pearl white tank with that same orange detailing either in pinstripe or a large stripe would be my choice. don't go down the orange anodized route it never works, its always dull, match it to silvers or black and its OK.

Gimme a shout if you want the powder codes for the pearl white and orange.

I have to agree with Gizmo that the red frame looks to factory S4R but I'm not sure about the orange either. The orange in your pic is just too insipid but the shades that Gizmo mentions might just do the trick.

The orange would be a deep orange...like the one on the HM Plant livery...nothing like the picture there...sorry, I did say the mock ups were pretty slap dash :o

Gizmo that would great if you could give me those codes...sounds exactlly what I'm after.

Like this...

How about a stripe on tank same colour as frame? And/or paint wheels with orange centre blowing out to white at rims or other way round? Just a thought? :)

Need your opinion

Initially I thought the red to be the nicer of the two pics, but then changed and think the Orange would look awesome. I would not go any further from where you are as the balance is sooo cool. Add much more and you might move into tacky zone. The orange definately looks so awesome. ;)

Both look nice but red frame is not too far away from something you could buy in the shop and the Orange might look a bit like a Tango ad so,...how about a turquoise frame a la Paul Smart rep ?.

Hmmmm...now there's a thought...could be pretty nice too

OK...how's this for an idea...powder coating the clutch pressure plate in white! I reckon it would look superb matched to the tank! BUT...practically...is the pressure plate something that gets filthy easily? (I've only had wet clutches before).

Maybe a pearl white would be ok non?

Hmmm, if orange and black is your thing?

Something I haven't seen done often on frames (and I think would look really trick!) although done occasionally on wheels - is to "blow" one colour into the next. It's almost as easy as putting one coat of powder on and shouldn't cost much more if any.

At the front of the headstock and for say half of the chassis you could go with the orange frame then blow into a metallic black rear frame. This would highlight the trellis at the front and give the illusion of hiding the frame under the seat area. It would "fatten" up the chassis at the front and show off the bodywork at the back!

On the tank you could combine the pearl finish and some stylish rich orange & black graphics (I s'pose similar in clourscheme to HM Plant) to really highlight the tank cut-outs. I think you need to use a really deep and rich orange though.

I would then keep the satin black of the wheels and pipes (are you thinking ceramic coating here?) but then match the rims with the same colour orange rim tape / paint.

Powdercoating the pressure plate might prove tricky as the thickness of the powder could hamper its operation. I think the springs would get too tight to the spring channels on most plates. The tolerances are close as is!

A chat to the powdercoater would give you an idea.

Maybe paint would be thinner but if it's white it could look awesome but not for long with the dust around there!

Leave orange to KTM :p

and Laverda too! I think the single sided exhaust looks unbalanced with a big 'hole' on the nearside. Also you might have to weld lugs on to take the S/S exhaust system, Zard looks the best I have seen yet ;)

I hear what you're saying. The pipes are temporary though. I've a friend in the states who's making a set of 2 into 1 headers for me. He's giving me them anyway, so I'll have the choice whether to run them as singles on each side or double on one. I won't really be able to tell whether they look OK or not until I see them in the flesh. Ideally I want a 2-into-1 with a single MotoGP style can...but I won't be able to afford it this year.

Or...as you say the Zards...I take it you mean the ones that are on the Sport Classics? Yep...they are superb!!!

I'm hoping this bike will be with me forever, no matter what others may come and go, so there's going to be plenty of time to try on different exhausts, colours etc. :D

OK...thanks everyone for the input so far. I'm still keen on the orange frame, and Martin your idea sounds really interesting, although I'm thinking it might look too much on a Monster. I've seen a couple of bikes in the US Challenge using this technique and it wasn't pretty. Maybe one day though...I'm bound to get bored at some point and want to try something new :)

BUT...now I'm also thinking about the turqoise frame. I really like this actually! Plus it works reasonably well with the gold wheels, and the yellow shock...not having to change these at the moment would save me a bit of money.

Any thoughts?

I think these are what Niall's thinking of but they don't make them for the Monster.

These are on an S4 so it will be different headers for Niall's bike, yes? I saw on another thread there is a place in sheffield that would make up the headers to fit the end pipes.

I can see what's going to happen here - designed by a committee. It'll end up looking like a pig's breakfast :D

I like the turk.... terq.... er, bluey colour better than the red Niall. But Martin does have a point about that blowing the powder colours together idea, it could work.

I really will have to see the end result!!

I think a few have been "blowing powder" from some of the suggestions! Not on the frame but up their nose!:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: Niall, I'm siding now with Derek, do your own thing mate.;)
