My empire of dirt...

Why have you made a ikle running circuit for yourself dude?

Anyhu.... I got the bricks round the "running circuit " finished... didn't get a Vance to take pics coz the heavens opened and it was a mad scramble to get tools inside and cover the bricks..
It's still fucken raining... its been a pia trying to get shit done. So much mud..Especially the piles in the middle of the room as I have to mix concrete, carry it in buckets to the outside wall, walk around to the back door, take boots off, walk through house, put boots back on, drag buckets under wall, empty in hole, throw buckets out window and repeat..
Wishing I'd cut the opening in that room for the patio doors but that's just another big can of worms...

If you can catch a chance when the rain pauses, can't you just simply tip a bag of dry mix concrete into the hole full of water and mix into cement in the hole?

Dry mix postcrete isn't for stuctual applications apparently.. although a local house repiling guy I know says he uses it.. but he is a fucken cowboy!!!
Anyway, it would only eliminate the mixing step, I'd still have to carry the bags in, dig holes ect.. what I really need is a laborer!!!

Lil garden wall... its rough but that's kinda the idea!! The bricks were from an old BBQ thingy that was here when we moved in.
Nice to reuse them.
I'm now in the process of removing the guttering off the driveway side of the house, cleaning it and refitting it to fall the opposite direction ( to where the drain is!).
Should have done this ages ago but it got overlooked and it has become a bit of a problem.
The water falls on the ground and runs under the house. Wasn't to bad in the past but combined with the fact I've a massive pile of dirt next to it which is collecting and leeching water, it's a bit of a fuck up..
Anyhu, get this done and get the pile of dirt moved and hopefully problem solved. Otherwise it's come up with a drainage solution..
Such is life..

How bizarre!!! It was completely dark when I took that pic last night!!!
Anyhu, I was working 2 hours north of home yesterday and when I got back, one of the neighbors was there with his digger moving the pile of dirt that has been giving me problems.
He stopped in a few weeks back , introduced himself and asked if I wanted the pile got rid of free of charge. I hadn't seen him since but I mentioned to another neighbor that the pile was now a problem and she must of told him.
Happy days.
I offered him some money but he wouldn't have it..
Some pics of where I'm working. It's near the hokianga harbor in a very small village called horeke..
It's got some really impressive rock formations, just up the road is a nature reserve that apparently attracts visitors from all over the world.. pretty dead atm ..

So went out yesterday and bought a load more down pipes and couplings and finally got all the gutters routed to drains. Also bought a dirty water submersion pump, dug a hole out the front and pumped water to the neighbors swamp.. now we wait for heavy rain ( shouldn't have to wait too long!) And see what gives..
Got a feeling im gunna have to do some drainage, a french drain type thing as i think despite getting all the water off the roof away from the house, eventually, given enough rain, the ground will reach saturation point and we will have problems..maybe it wont, time will tell i guess...
the pipe work looks like something outta super Mario bros but it's only temporary and will be re routed when the decking comes up.
Also got b's Lil flower garden filled with potting mix for her so she's good to start planting in a few days.

Quicker to build a new house chiz? 👍 we know a good roofer if you need one😇
Yep probably quicker to build new!! Well not much in it I'd say. It's much slower as we are living here so not necessarily doing things in the most efficient order and constantly moving stuff. Also lots of jobs getting done along the way that I wouldn't be doing on a new build. It's all good though!!!!
Money and time are obviously the biggest factors, got time, no money, got money, no time!! It's a juggling act that's for sure but it's also fun for the most part...

Probably abit late now, but at the stage your at now, if your planning to live there for some years, wouldnt you treat the wood joists and framework and they wouldnt need to be replaced

I'm treating all the wood for wood worm as we go and only replacing what is to far gone in terms of being rotten or really split and twisted. The original floor joists are at random centers about 650-700:mm apart, I want em at 400 centers so have to move em and add more, for time involved of denailing and moving the old ones and the cost of borer treatment, it works out cheaper and better just to replace all the joists..
In thee bedroom for example, the joists are 4.8 mtrs long and the floor boards 85mm wide, 2 nails in each floor board so about 110 nails in each joist to be removed and they don't come out easy!!!! Then the cost of borer treatment and time involved..
A new joists cost $22.00 and is new!!!
I'm part jew and part Scottish so trust me bro, I'm not spending money I don't need to!!!
Get ya arse over to help out and I can explain in more detail over a beer or two.. ( you're paying for the beers btw)
