Its been down a long time !!!

I recall the last time it was down a few weeks ago, funnily enough I think there were some similar "political" threads going on then too :rolleyes:
 
Yep, I'm hearing what you are saying the website can be found curled up in a corner in a darkened room, shaking nervously !
 
Sorry, couldn't do anything about it until just now. I was in a meeting and then off to pick up my battery.

Now I'm off to fit it.

Its a hosting problem linked to the mySQL database, the server overloads when it gets a few users and down it goes, it could maybe do with a look at the templates as allowing auto refresh on search pages can't be helping but hey, what would I know I only stared on this forum stuff 4 weeks ago :)

It needs moving to a reliable host and BB software or it'll continue to happen, visordown and upnorth run off vbulletin with few problems.

Think I might have mentioned the server in a thread today funnily enough :D

Can you remove the auto refreshes Tony?? its got to hit the number of SQL connections, when i asked on vbulletin about this a few of the developers commented that you need an ultra reliable host, i only added it to 2 search templates because of that.

It's just the time taken to shutdown all the processes that are running and power cycle the box then restart everything in the appropriate order. When they're in a hung state, especially due to a memory leak or having very low memory available, it takes extra long.

Yeah we could. To be honest you'll know more than me because I do infrastructure - not applications. I just help out where I can mainly on the host itself, forum moderation and website minor admin.

Eamonn has a plan of how he wants to do things to fix it but I don't know what it is yet or when it will happen. I've sent him an e-mail about it.

I'll bet I don't , this thing is held together by bits of string and elastic and a lot of guess work:)

do you have the numbers on how much traffic the DSC gets??

Not off the top of my head. I would have to have a hunt around and see what I could find.

I'm actually working at the moment (shock horror!) so I'll leave it for another time.

no probs, i'd be interested to see what the hosting costs would end up, if upnorth keeps going like this I might be in for a shock :eek:

Don't do to much of that work thing, its not good for you :D :D

Well I'm sick of work now!

There was an e-mail around a while ago about our hosting costs - I know we had to upgrade ISP's due to increased traffic. I don't think capacity on the host or with the ISP is related to the issues we're having on the DSC - that's related to the database issue you referred to earlier. Hopefully we can get it knocked on the head shortly.

I'll let you know when I get a chance to dig through everything.
