Hello everyone,
I am an avid fisherman[freshwater mostly] and I know very little about fishing in other countries. I would like to use this thread for anyone to post pics of their past catches, equipment and locations where you fish. We all know that fishermen are often reluctant to share their favorite spot but you can post some pics and not say where? Well enough babble from me. I mostly fish for Large Mouth Bass but there are pickerel, pike, small mouth bass, perch[yellow and white] calico bass[crappie] and many others. I will start things off with this:

Nice catch! Got to be 25 - 30lb? beats my pb pike by a lonnnnng way. Did get my first Scottish salmon a couple of years back, sadly it was on a spinner and not a fly but not giving up on that one just yet.

Thats great, we dont have much of a salmon fishery here but they do stock loads of trout into the local river some are actually pretty big. Thus is one nice large brown trout. The lure in its mouth is just under 3Inches long. Fish was about 22 inches if I remember correctly

Here is a snapper I caught off the rocks that was the thick end of 24 lb. Imperial weights have stayed the benchmark in NZ for some reason with regard to fish size…Smoked most of it. It was caught the old fashioned way with a hook and bait. I cannot bring myself to throw plastic bait in the ocean…

Our local river is so flooded at the moment that you can't see the bank. My G'son has been lent a pike rod and reel and will have a go when the deluge subsides.

Will he be going with someone who knows how to handle pike as they are very delicate fish? If not get him to watch some youtube vids on handling and unhooking them as they are not as easy as other species.

My poor eyesight and internet coloured mind read the thread title as fisting. .. yet another disappointing thread.

This is the first pike I caught this season 8LB.
I've also had one 16LB end of last year.

That's a good point, he will have someone with him but watching Youtube videos makes a lot of sense.

Yes I learned a lot. You have to slide your hand through the gills to grip the jaw which makes the pikes mouth open to unhook it. The gill rakers are razor sharp and can cause nasty cuts on the back of your hand as I well know.
The pikes mouth has an anti-coagulant so you bleed like crazy. If you get cut the best thing to do is rub the hand in the mud.

Get him to look at a guy called the ginger fisherman as he has some good videos.

thats a beautiful fish, I might have been

tempted to have that one at the taxidermy office. I have considered having a few catches mounted but I always end up putting them back to get bigger. Here is a Pike I caught in the Connecticut river near my parents house and an entire lifetime ago. I dont weigh fish but I did measure this one and itbwas just under 40 inches--again if my memory is correct.

This fun looking guy is my good friend Rich. He has a youtube cahnnel: Bump Around Baits. He makes his own lures and I have been encouraging him to focus more on sales as his products are very good. Not only is he an expert fly tirer, he also make the soft plastic swim baits, grubs, worms and all other forms. He can make you up any color or size or shape, whatever puts fish in the creel! Check out his site (I have no affiliation with his business other than we fish together and I buy/use his products. Lots of great fising videos and he also shows how to tie some of the flies he makes and how he makes the rubber baits. You may even see me in some of his fishing videos.

We don't kill freshwater fish in England other than trout or salmon for the table.

We have Riverside park about a mile from me and when i was a young kid there where Kingfishers a plenty and water voles!! Don't see them anymore. Where i lived in my early teens you would hear Cuckoos and every species of native birds, that's all gone, sparrows and magpies with an occasional Gold finch is all i get round here now.
