When I go to see my mum at weekends her bird feeders are full of gold finch and green finch but none on mine and I’m more rural.We have Riverside park about a mile from me and when i was a young kid there where Kingfishers a plenty and water voles!! Don't see them anymore.Where i lived in my early teens you would hear Cuckoos and every species of native birds, that's all gone, sparrows and magpies with an occasional Gold finch is all i get round here now.
There is a lane near me before the housing estate was buit there where Bullfinch, greenfinch, long tailed tits, blue tits wrens you name it we had it all.
I've also noticed the Red Kite population has gone nuts, when i ride out to Loomies there are loads of them. That is where the term shitehawk comes from because back in the day they where a menace!! Mostly the same here, especially with Bass. You are most likely aware of the insane Bass Master fishing series here in the States where you can not only make a living catching and releasing fish, but if you do well, you too can be a millionare! I have won small amounts of money in Amature bass tournaments in my youth. Not a great pic but nice size largemouth Bass
We have many diverse species of birds in the North East. I have seen 5 American Bald Eagles in the last year, all within a few miles of my home. When we were all growing up, it was extremely rare to see a bald eagle but not much of a suprise today. We even have an Osprey that hunts his fish by the dam where I fish and there is a mated pair of Ospreys that I have seen raising their young at a private lake we get access to fish. I have seen the king fishers and even some woodcock and sandpipers around during their migrations. I think its a lot like what you see there, over here, we have highly populated areas connected by rural areas and the wild life has learned to live around us. Here is a picture of an Ermin, a member of the weasle,mink,ferrett fam. He was totally wild but I think he got dehydrated on a very hot day. I saw several crows attacking something in a parking lot. I went over and found him in a bad way but nothing too bad. I scooped him up and put him in a box in the cool basememt, gave him a lot of water and some canned shredded chicken. That is what he is gleefully sitting on in the bowl. Good to hear, i hope one day they come back in numbers, i get it from my Father for my interest in birds, he was a man that showed me and inspired me with the love of birds. The best things in life are the things you take for granted, look at what is on your doorstep, nature is a thing to behold even on the tiny scale of things.

That is what I am talking about, I simply love every minute outdoors in the country. I love all of nature and animals too but I do fish and occasionally keep some or hunt for food, but I truly love and respect the lands I roam. Here is a little guy I rescued from the middle of the road.Since my split from the ex all i would wake up to is tyre roar from the road that was next to the flat !!
