Religion is a symptom of the human condition, the human condition is not really a symptom religion.

That said, which major religion do you prefer to live under?
Christianity?
Islam?
Atheism?
Marxism?

Others are available but none of those will form the basis of our future civilisation, if there is one.

I think there will come a time when all are thrown out or forgotten to be replaced by something more aligned with reality. We're still a ways away and the suffering in the name of the representaive gods and prophets will continue until then.

The idea of an omniscient being who determines how you spend eternity after your short life on Earth has had a sobering effect throughout history on the populace (as a whole and minus exceptions & outliers).

The alternative to this setup is reliance upon the majority of folk basing their behaviour upon rationality, reciprocity, live-and-let-live, maximal freedom without impinging upon others' freedoms & rights, etc. Or put another way, whatever the current secular fad for "good behaviour" happens to be. Think about that awhile.

Until a working brain is installed into every human being, I know which approach has more chance of success in terms of a maintaining a stable society that isn't going to eat itself and then shit itself out over everyone.
