Ian, my Desmosedici just called me from Coventry and asked me to pass this message on.. I'll try and translate.

"Tell that half wit to get off my back... "another reason why the D16RR was ill thought out", what kind of utter p1sh is that. I was designed by some of the smartest guys in the industry, created using state of the art Moto GP technology and brought to the market for a fraction of the price of what I'm worth... then me and my mates are subjected to all sorts of stupid statements from people like Fergay (I think he got the spelling wrong there) who just don't appreciate what I'm all about... I'm history, I'm the future, I'm a one off and a future classic. Owners are qualified to criticise, no one else"

Best Wishes - D16RR 490 of 1500

:eek: Cheeky bike, I wouldn't put up with that Ian, my apologies, I'll have words when he's back. Trouble is he's SUPER TUNED now and a cocky wee b@stard.

Forgive me for being a tad out of touch here, but if someone can afford such state of the art machinery then surely it is incumbent on them to afford the quoted insurance. I can't understand the complaint

irrespective of if somebody can afford the insurance it just seems a bit strange and unfair that one persons policy increases by a large amount and others either go down or stay the same when there has not been a claim.

short & curlies

clearly you don't understand, afford has NOTHING to do with it. I apply the same principles with personal finances that I do with my business finances - ensuring maximum value for money and shopping around for the best prices, a 40% hike with bike insurance does not represent value for money. Having the bikes doesn't make it open season to pay ridiculous premiums for ANYTHING !!!

I'm just taking a guess here, its possible the premiums have jumped due to excessive repair costs that the insurance companies had not forseen????

Maybe too many been put down the road?:dunno:

I think at least part of the issue for Insurers is that in event of a spill there are issues about obtaining repacement parts.
I understood from something Scott said some time back was that there was a lack of spares in event of dropping a bike as the only spares were taken from bikes being built.
If this is the case then it could result in bikes being "written off" that would otherwise be repairable.
Similar situation arose a number of years back with Japanese/Grey imports with cars and as a result many Insurers won't touch them even now.

the other factor will be prior to a bikes launch the underwriters are guessing as to potential claims/risk, after a year of production they have history to work from and may have realised they grossly under estimated the risks/costs in which case the premium will rise.

Any ideas why Norwich Union seems to have dropped bike policies in the first place... or is it simply that Ducati Insurance getter a bigger bung from other firms.... ooops did I say that on a public forum :D

ocht well - no joy, renewed with Ducati Insurance... another lesson learned. Thanks for the comments on this thread folks, tried them all and special thanks to Stewart (239 desmo) for his assistance, very much appreciated.

I'm losing the plot with this thread have you got your insurance or not :beer:and did you pay ducati insurance oodles for the privilege of insuring a future classic :beer:and if you did, do you still need to search for 'competitive' insurance :beer:and keep telling us about it  like we really care:beer::beer:

If your not interested then this may help:

When I started Upnorth I knew the problems of having an online community and how an online persona can be so very different from the real world person. We all use forums in different ways and our online personality tends to reflect our mood and occasionally that can be argumentitve / controversional or just looking to provoke a reaction ( not that I'm ever guilty of that, oh no ).

I'd hope that most users here understand that, we're all adults sharing a common interest but that doesn't mean we have to agree on everything nor adopt a "collective" mentality where those who don't fit "on line" are forced out or made to feel unwelcome as I know that on every meet or event we've had everyone puts their forum differences to one side and gets on with each other!

I'm not going to get in to moderating or policing this forum I neither have the time or desire to ( never mind the legal implications as soon as you do edit content), if upnorth users let it descend into a place where no-one wants to visit because of the atmosphere then so be it, you are all adults and make your own decisions. I also won't ban or delete users nor would I want to see a user leave or be driven out because they feel unwelcome.

I'd hope that does not happen, the facility upnorth provides lets you communicate with each other and enjoy Ducati ownership in the real world and I think the majority would lose out if it did happen.

The forum software provides you with options to "ignore" the posts of a member, if someone is really p1ssing you off please use that option. It is easy to use, simply click on the username to open their profile and between "profile" and "forum info" you'll find a link to "add xxx to your ignore list" IMHO that should be a last resort, its better to simply not rise to the bait nor react, we've all seen the "don't feed the troll" slogan and if a post causes you to start typing in anger, stop and think about what effect it will have before pressing submit.

What I'm trying to say is play nicely folks

Apologies if this something you already know and do but after the last few days I felt it was worth posting!

:)

Or you could just keep giving useless replies in an attempt to get a rise out of MD :p
