Mad Dash

Just visiting
For years now I've sung the praises of Ducati Insurance and recommended them to many... Until the renewal came in. With no changes in my circumstances, and with another year to add in NCB the premium has ROCKETED to £1952.

This is a four bike policy, Desmosedici RR, 1098R, 1098R Bayliss and Hypermottard 1100s - OK there's some hefty metal on that, but I don't think it warrants an increase in premium of over 40% from last year.

It appears that the previous insurer (Norwich Union) are "not prepared to offer renewal terms". At first I thought that might have been becuase of the values, but Dr Bobs CB125 also received the same letter last month...

Ducati Insurance seem to use Equity Red Star now

My problem seems to be the albatros that hangs round my neck better known as a Desmosedi RR - I really, honestly, regret buying that bike. NO INSURER will touch it, Bennets  LIST IT in the drop down menus, then claim they won't insure it becuase of the value.

Anyone else had similar issues - how did you resolve them - need to move quick - policy due on the 19th July

Stuart

had asimilar problem ...norwich union wouldnt quote me for the 1098 direct but underwrote my policy for the same bike with anoither broker ..go figure

My modded 1098s is insured with eBike. Although i have been a customer of them for a good few years now, i wanted to change, as i had a non fault accident last year on my R1, and it was a bit of a pain in the hole communication with an internet based company.
Tried Bennetts, as i was with them before eBike. They wouldn't insure the bike (had never mentioned the modifications at this point).
Asked why, and the guy had a look though my proposal.

Clean license - not that.
Non fault claim - not that.
Age - not that.
Full NCD - not that.
Must be because of what it is, was his only thought.
When i asked him why they won't insure a 1098, but they use a 1098 in all their adverts, 'Dunno mate'.

So ended up staying with eBike. 310 quid, fully comp, protected NCD and 7 grands worth of modifications.

I went the other way - I wanted TP only, hardly anybody would quote for that either? In the end went with (again) Motor Cycle Direct and they gave me a discount for paying by DD in instalments? Weird or what? And they didn't load it up for all my points......

Speak to a specialist broker. Get the equivalent of a traders policy and although it might no give you the cuddly warmth of fully comp with Ducati, it will give you road risks and theft cover.

Personally I think there should be some obligation on Ducati Insurance to cover these things with a sensible premium.

Just another reason why the D16RR has been ill thought out.

Ian, my Desmosedici just called me from Coventry and asked me to pass this message on.. I'll try and translate.

"Tell that half wit to get off my back... "another reason why the D16RR was ill thought out", what kind of utter p1sh is that. I was designed by some of the smartest guys in the industry, created using state of the art Moto GP technology and brought to the market for a fraction of the price of what I'm worth... then me and my mates are subjected to all sorts of stupid statements from people like Fergay (I think he got the spelling wrong there) who just don't appreciate what I'm all about... I'm history, I'm the future, I'm a one off and a future classic. Owners are qualified to criticise, no one else"

Best Wishes - D16RR 490 of 1500

:eek: Cheeky bike, I wouldn't put up with that Ian, my apologies, I'll have words when he's back. Trouble is he's SUPER TUNED now and a cocky wee b@stard.

:idea:How about opening your windows and just shout the abuse at each other..... save a bit of time and it won't clog the forum up????:dunno:

First of all Fergie posted a valid point on the insurance, followed by a wee pop at the D16RR, which got a humorous (I think) reply... hardly "clogging up the forum" to be blunt. Is it getting that fragile on here ?????????????

Next, I can SHOUT, but even I'll struggle from Cumbernauld to Edinburgh !!!

Maybe Paul (like me) had visions of you two guys living next door to each other on one of those stately homes estates

Relax Stu......he is from Gilmerton.....they @@@@ing nick everything up there........even it seems his sense of humour!!!

Plus, jealousy is a terrible thing.

Windows that is. The only ones in Gilmerton are boarded shut. he is probably just tetchy through a lack of vitamin D.You don't get much on a diet of Tizer and Monster Munch........

Hi Stuart,

Don't know if they'll help you with the D16RR but DW Laxton have always been my choice.

Bennetts miffed me off last year adn I went backto Laxtons and they easily beat the Bennetts 2-bike quote. They're always hassle free when I deal wit hthem and don't need pushing much to beat other quotes.

Worth a try if nowt else - http://www.dwlaxton.co.uk/contact.php

Good luck. Guy

Dear Fergie and Mad Dash,

Let me expand on my original thoughts, some of your bickering is quite humurous, yes honestly.

But it does get a bit boring when you repeat the same insults and use each others bikes as the main points of bitching.

Fergie, me jealous.... don't do jealousy mate, and my diet is very expansive and healthy but thanks for the concern.:thanks:

Mad Dash, I no longer reside in Gilmerton/Edinburgh....as I wasn't using Edinburgh's full potential of Museums and Theatres, I decided to give up on it and I have moved. Loved the comedy clubs though!;)

Now go outside and play nice boys.

Definately not "from Gilmerton"...... but did have to insure the bikes when I lived there...... funnily enough, just renewed and now a lot cheaper.;):D:cool:

If you're going to quote me, please quote me RIGHT, never got involved in the who lives where / Gilmerton nonsense... don't even know where it is TBH.

Basically, you go along from Seafield Road, up Sir Harry Lauder Road and the you have two options. Up The Wisp and along a wee bit to the right, or you could go round the City Bypass to the Gilmerton turn off and voila!

Do you not have sat nav in the Range Rover? :D

Oh. Sorry. How insensitive of me. The insurance has lapsed!!

I can give you a run if need be?

Footman James will cover valuable 'classic' machines on a multi-bike policy. Not sure if they'll do the same for modern-day machines, but they're worth a try.

ocht well - no joy, renewed with Ducati Insurance... another lesson learned. Thanks for the comments on this thread folks, tried them all and special thanks to Stewart (239 desmo) for his assistance, very much appreciated.
