...I'll leave this thread now too!! ;)

U-Turn of The Century!!

Its not you is it...........Mr Darling?;)

I beg to differ, a U-Turn would suggest an approach from an entirely different and opposite direction. :dunno:

The question and concerns raised have been answered and laid to rest. The position seems not to have changed from the post yesterday.

The end.

Mart:)

...Just as a parting thought, the 1098 engine has been around since the 60s, I remember my dad fitting one into his Morris Minor convertable - from a post office MM van. :D :D

(I would like to see a back to back comparison actually)

...right I'm really off now!!!!

You lost me there!

What I would throw into the mix is I reckon Mad Dash has had his silence bought. Probably. £4k I reckon. Oh, and a nudie picture of the Pit Crew. Maybe:rolleyes:

Its probably a conspiracy to keep values high and the deals rolling. Did you notice he appears to have had his ID high-jacked!!!!

its like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, only more real! I mean, have you seen him!!

U-Turn of The Century!!

Definition of a U turn, standing with me slagging of the Hyper, 1098R, Desmosedici, then contacting the dealers to buy one/some/all - now that's a U turn DARLING.... :p

Quick! Quick!

Can someone look into their movie archive and see what they used to kill the Body Snatchers!?

...heres a eye-opening thought for you Mad dash, your 1098R has nigh-on double the power of my bike with the same weight!!! That's sobering!!!! :)

Sounds good, must remember then to use the traction control, and that brings us right back to the beginning again

I have followed this post now without saying anything. I now feel I must contribute my two penneth worth, at the risk of being told to F**k off. WSB is about racing bikes on a sunday that you can buy on a monday, Suzuki Yamaha, Honda......except Ducati. They play the homologation game. Sell the minimum number of bikes so they can compete...did it with 996SPS, 998R and the 999R. None of these could you buy unless you were loaded and/or ordered the previous decade. Now it's the turn of the 1098R (except it's not good enough to win races so they have to up it to 1200, but that's another story). Ducati haven't sold enough....sh*t they are thinking, hence the situation of 15 pre-reg. Now understandably 1098R owners are pi$$ed off; I would be, but at the end of the day they are just pawns in Ducatis methods of racing in WSB. This wouldn't happen if they raced the bike that could be bought on the Monday.

Don't get me wrong. I owned a Duke in the past but cannot afford one now. If I could I'd have another tomorrow. But their methods of getting their bikes into racing by making the minimum number of exclusives will always have a knock on effect to the customer. If you have a 1098 R, enjoy it and think yourself lucky that you can have one.

As a 1098R owner, I am EXTREMELY angry that some FOUR weeks after I pay £24,000 for this bike that Ducati UK announce they are pre-registering 15 of these bikes to meet targets, apparently 85 have been sold and they need 100, hence another 15. Now, let's not kid ourselves here, 15REGISTERED vehicles will not sell overnight at full list. If they have sold 85 so far, then 15 will not sell quickly - unless they are DISCOUNTED. I don't know about other 1098R owners, 85 of us by the looks of it, but I will be absolutely FUMING if that bike drops as much as a penny. A pre-regsitered bike is, in effect, second hand - so Ducati UK, sign onto the forum, reply to this thread and assure me and others that you're not discounting 1098R's before the bloody paint's dry on the first batch. If this happens I'm FINISHED with Ducati, starting with the Desmosedici being cancelled.       I've changed my mood to "mad" only becuase there isn't an "Absolutely F@CKING FURIOUS"

It's a bike. Like any other vehicle it depreciates. Live with it. Just cos you paid a lot of money for the bike it doesn't mean you have some god-given right to be immune to depreciation.

Just wait till my new NEXT pin stripe suit goes in the sale, I will be playing fuc k - LOL at this thread !

Strangely enough I bought a Mk1 Superlight two years ago and its value has increased by 25%. :D

if anybody seriously thinks that two or three letters saying thanks for being a mug ,from ducati and a couple of race teams which will be printed off on a computer and probably signed by the guy who sweeps up the pits,is going to make up for buying a second hand bike, theyre obviously a lot more optimistic than me. i will have to try it with my next customer. "come here sir, come buy this pre registered car at the same price as a new one. yes i know it wont hold its value cause its already pre owned, but i will get you some letters from people to say thank you for being stupid." Hmmmmmm cant see it working somehow.:D

Looking to the future it may be that these pre-registered 1098Rs with their unique provenance will become the bikes of choice for collectors. :)

It is not the perfect stamp which gains in value but rather the flawed one. :)

Just a thought. :D

Unfortunately the same cannot be said of flawed males.

If there are only upward of 15 1098r's for sale available but those bikes happen to have DUK as a previous registered keeper and there are no other bikes for sale then surely one would have no choice, you have a pre-reg at £24 as there is no alternative.

It amazes me just how much you folks miss the point - NO ONE is expecting the bike NOT to depreciate, that happened 1 second after I collected it - what we didn't want was the bike to depreciate FURTHER due to unforeseen circumstances, such as 15% of the 1098R allocation having the retail price discounted. We're now assured by DUK that this won't happen, so the bike will "depreciate as expected" now... can we talk about the weather now :D

hope that is stinky bait that I am chomping on because if not.....YOU ARE SMOKING CRACK!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll also bet you own a cat? And a pushbike with a basket on the front, wicker of course?

A pre-reg bike with a Microsoft Word 'certificate' and some piccys? Has provenance!!!!!!!!!! yeah right. Run that past DG in 2 years and watch them crack the funnies!!

You 'young' lady are a troll, and a bad troll at that!:)

Fergie and His Desmosedici

View attachment 2892

Motorcycle News have released this picture of Fergie with his new Desmosedici, or at least the closest he'll get to one. That picture may look like an authentic Norweigan Troll, but it only LOOKS that way... sorry Fergie, couldn't resist it...:D

...........

Forum Troll

From the latin Trollus Forumus.

Forum Troll lives in CyberSpace. It usually appears after the 'host' body has consumed a large quantity of hallucinogenic substances (crack cocaine, alcohol, Orange 'Limited Edition' KitKat etc) and causes the 'host' to type complete and utter pish, even though to the assembled mass they appear quite normal most of the time.
Forum Troll was once hunted by Captain Kirk in episode 99 of Star Trek (the original series with the wierd tunes, not the pishy later " Next Generation" one with the un-realistic characters and space ships that looked like they could actually go hyper) and was eventually foiled when its Internet access was cut off. It was quite harmless, but made belching sounds and farted a lot. It liked the smell of its own farts. It did try and eat Kirk, but it had no teeth due to 'acid' (pronounced aceeeeeeeeeeeeed!!) erosion and its quite obvious age. No Loreal in outer space!
Forum Troll is a shapeshifter. Not the singing ones! silly! It takes many forms. One advantage in identifying them was they could never appear younger than they actually are. Even with Loreal!
They travel from place to place on pushbikes. Sometimes in a groups or 'clubs' . One such club, the Special Designation Club, prospered for many light years and still operates in far reaches of the Galaxy. They survived by using the special powers found in Limited edition items such as Dark Chocolate KitKat, Bold 3-in-One Harry Potter Edition, Petit Filous LoganBerry and so on.
If spotted they should be tackled with love and care and compassion. They are to be pitied not scorned. With proper re-habilitation they can become useful, a bit like 'Dobby the House Elf' from Harry Potter. Unlike wasps, if you ignore them they will not go away.

:)

Wow, this starts a fire!!!:)

I'm sorry Sticky but unfortunately you've not grasped some of the critical aspects of this.
A few points you have missed.
1) This is BSB not WSB. The homologation rules are different for each series. The rules have changed this year and are dictated by the number of bikes sold by the manufacturer. Obviously there are special dispensations as to the size of a company. Eg Foggy Petronas etc.
When KTM, Aprilia, BMW all start racing, the rules will also apply to them. This is not just a Ducati against the rest thing. Although you seem to think it is!

2) The BSB and WSB bikes you see on the television, up until now, have been a million miles away from what you can buy on a Monday. Yes, that was the theory but until now was not the case - not even nearly. If you think you could go and buy a Ten Kate WSBK Honda for under £10k, you are sorely mistaken - if only!!!:)

3) You have completely dismissed the whole reason for changing from 999 to 1200cc twins. This is a huge argument that we shouldn't go into now (it's been done to death) but it has been done to level the rules and make them the same for all taking part and to reduce enormous costs for the smallest team in the paddock.

4) The 1098S did win races, in fact the European Superstock Championship 2007 and the double at Brands in British Superstock for example!!!

For the first time EVER in 2008 - Ducati or not, you can now get something similar to a BSB or WSB machine.

In fact Ducati are racing exactly the machine you suggest!!!

I see the Arnold Clark magic has worked on you too!:D

I appreciate yor response but as I say (well didn't make clear) I'm no expert but I am just expressing what I see. I know there is a difference in the rules between BSB and WSB. The bikes that are raced are nothing like the bike bought on Monday, but there is only one fireblade, R1, GSX1000 that the race bikes are based on. Ducati produce three if I am right and they modify the most elite one. I wonder why they do not produce just one aswell and use that as a basis for racing. As for the foggy bike...did any make it to the road. I feel for the poor suckers who bought one of those (or do I:) )

What I see in WSB is Bayliss running away with the championship and quite frankly it's getting boring. The excitement is who is going to get second, third ...and Shakey in BSB. I'm not taking the skill of the riders away from it they are both great to watch, but it's a bit of a coincidence.
As you said the 1200 thing has been flogged but I don't think it was the right decision.

What will you give me for my mille against a 1098R:D

What will you give me for my mille against a 1098R:D

I'd wait for one of the Pre-Reg ones!!

With the certificate of authenticity they are SURE to be collectable in the near future!

And with a huge saving over list, may just soften the financial blow to the wallet!!

Probably;)

...Well you lot, I'm alright Jack; I know I'm not gonna loose any money with the bike that I ride. never mind all this 100, 1000 or 1500 bikes produced, mine comes into the 'Prototype' category much like the Moto GP bikes ;) . 30 - yes just 30 in the entire world!!!! ;) :D

...hey, I'm just trying to lighten up this thread, it seems to be dragging on a bit! ;) :p

Talk about thread creep...

Anyway, I'm glad that your concern's have been put to rest mad dash - I'm sure you'll have hours and hours of fun with her...

:D :D

All I can say is that I'm glad I'm not working in the Motorcycle industry anymore, I know how the likes of poor old Martin feels; wanting really to tell you lot of whinging Ducati riders to leave using the F word and having to bite his lip!!! ;) :p :D

...for any new members reading this thread - everyone just ignores me anyway coz I spout out a load of sh1te most of the time!!!! :o :p

but do I look bovered???:p
