That's how a Velociraptor would look at you. Seen that look many a time round the back of a night club/bar/garages
That will polish out.Not my bike, A N Other’s. I’d say that intermediate gear wheel has seen better days.

It was lucky I noticed it actually, just happened to catch a glimpse of it down the camchain tunnel while I was replacing the vertical cylinder head.

Yes and no.@West Cork Paul are those plastic gear driving pumps? If so are the pumps fucked?
Audi innit, VAG group love their shit plastic water pumpsYes and no.
Yes the gears that drive the water pump are plastic. The intermediate one is fucked, the teeth are all chewed up, but the main one attached to the water pump is fine, although I’ll be replacing it anyway whilst I’m in there, JIC. It’s only about €20, so better safe than sorry. The water pump itself is fine too.
I can only assume the intermediate gear gets chewed up because it’s driven by a metal gear below it.
However, the oil pump gears right at the bottom, behind the clutch, are also plastic and they’re fine.

Why are they plastic? Allegedly for lightness and noise reduction (but it also saves on production costs).
It’s not an uncommon issue on Pani 899/1199/1299.
What year is that bike Paul? Just so we can establish when VW/Audi went complately Mickey Mouse so I can avoid those products for all time. Not my bike, A N Other’s. I’d say that intermediate gear wheel has seen better days.

Been going on for years. The fuel lift pump failed on my old Caddy van a few years ago. A right feckin pita to replace - drop the fuel tank etc. When we got the old one out it was an utter piece of shite. All plastic except the electrical contacts. The aftermarket Bosch pump that went back in was vastly better quality with metal moving parts, and it was cheaper than a VW original. And that's a 2012 van. I've had quite a list of things gone wrong with it and invariably it was poor quality original parts.Audi innit, VAG group love their shit plastic water pumps![]()

In the meantime can you get them brazed?
Bit of duck tape, be good as newSo, for the first time in 106,000 miles my BM failed to get me home.
Went out with ChezzyM for a back lane tootle, got as far as Two Dales, near Matlock, stopped at a junction as was engulfed in a cloud of steam, a few hundred yards later, the red triangle of death (never seen it before) appeared on the dash, got it to a petrol station and decided to stop it there.
Here’s a photty of the bike in the petrol station, screen removed.

My mate went and fetched the van, so I jet washed while I waited so as not to dirty the van.
Found a new cafe in Beeley near Chatsworth

Very nice.
Found a hole in the Heat Exchanger pipes, it had corroded through one and the other doesn’t look too healthy.

Managed to get them off with a bit of persuasion and penetrating oil

On the hunt for new ones, it’s not looking good and it may result in a bodge job, all the places you’d expect to have some are stating ‘no longer available from the manufacturer’. I’ll get in touch with the local BM dealer when they open, see what they’ve got to say.
There’s an eBay seller in Germany with some second hand ones, but they’re listed about four times all with different prices, looks dodgy to me.
They look like something that an engineering shop that does hydraulics/tube bending could make up for you. You have the intact originals as a pattern. So, for the first time in 106,000 miles my BM failed to get me home.

Maybe someone like Pirtek could make something that would work. So, for the first time in 106,000 miles my BM failed to get me home.
