Good Friday

Sorry Martin, all too late went bouldering in the Lakes instead, was going to do some climbing at Hodge Close Quarry but 'somebody' didn't turn up!!! :)

Aye bit of a cokc up all round. My mate (who is notoriously fickle) changed his mind over the venue, and with being on the bike I didn't get his call. They went to Castle Rock Thirlmere. I was only along as "photo bunny" anyway which is why we could have climbed together for a while. My son had my gear in my bag in his car. Got to Hodge, took some photos, had no signal on phone, so buggered off for a ride round the Lakes. It was still quite chilly on the bike, so put your thermals on for Sunday boys. And girls.

Pete, no worries mate. We were all a bit tired after doing a grade one on the Bell and then multiple routes on the Pudding stone. How tall is the big wall in the quarry, looked about 150 foot?

The big main wall is about 200', usually two pitch efforts. Ten Years After, Life in the Fast Lane, Sky, Wings, Second Coming (one of my routes) are all about that sort of length, grades from E2-E6, 5c-6b ish. We put one new route up there some years ago called Bright Eyes and Blues, E4/5 6B, 9 bolts, one peg in situ, now established as a sort of uber classic, the guide writers give it 3 stars continually. It's the longest single pitch in the quarry, 165', bottom to top in one push. It's the one I wanted my son to lead yesterday and I was going to rap down and photo it as they climbed. Next time.

Anyway getting back to the origins of the post, the rideout yesterday was fine except it was a little busy in places. Got into Glasson Dock bumped into Martin who rides a 748R (hopefully see him tomorrow also) After leaving Glasson Dock and heading North East along the A683 to pick up the A687 onto the A65 we could open the throttles a bit more although plod were out periodically around Lancaster and Morecombe mainly. Stopped in Settle for ice cream then onto Huddersfield then home.

Although the late afternoon/ Early evening were a little more fun it was just good to be out. Hopefully see most of you if not all on Sunday..
