Is it the end of Ducati?

Real Tri-colore's will become a rare item as they are only making them for 3 months as far as I know....

But I was being hyperthetical about using it once and throwing a duvet over it for 5-10 years...... I was also playing Devils Advocate with the thread and thinking inside the box rather outside of it. Or should that be the otherway round..

It'll get ridden sometimes, just not as often as a 2nd bike would be a more mundane, everyday usable tool/ bike.

new bike prices

nevermind Fergie, you're not the only one. i bought my 999R in August 06 just before the shiny new 1098 model. i'm in 2 minds about it. thankfully by the time i bought mine, presumably no one at Ducati thought that they'd ever shift another 999, so I got £3k off the list. i assume that this late discount hit residuals for all bikes.

I did have a great 2000 mile late summer to remember, whenever i think that i should have waited for the 1098. in the past whenever i have bought a new car, i've lost a ton of money, but more than 50% of the retail value in a year does feel particularly painful. in the end, it's like everything in life, if you can't afford it don't do it. if you are lucky enough to be able to afford it, just enjoy it, forget the cost. i bet every time you ride your Xerox, it feels like it's worth more than £9k, so to you it is worth more. the issue for me is do i have the room to keep more bikes? like you the RR lies in wait (i got a letter today from Frederico who says thanks for the order, the bike will be ready in December. Apparently the price just went up another €5000! Still, he did send signed photos of Loris and Troy, what a nice man), but i also want a 1098 and that new hard core looking supermoto that i saw on Martin's stand at the bike show. they're all too expensive, will lose money in a flash, but i still want them.

they will be mine, oh yes, they will be mine.

I may just be pouring fuel onto a fire here, but the loss is only a loss once you have accepted the offer. At the moment it is a dealer taking a "punt" at nicking the part/ex as he knows the supply / demand equation is stacked in his favour. The decision to accept the offer is still with the customer. as Fergie says "they do not know me, have never dealt with me" etc etc. There are other Dealers in the network that view a 999R Xerox very differently to the dealer Fergie spoke to. I know that particular dealer would make a derisory offer knowing that it's the start of a negotiation. If the customer is desperate to deal, then there is a big fat profit opportunity that the dealer would love to milk. :p

So to call the value of an 11 month old Xerox as £9k is slightly twisting the facts. I'll give you a cash offer of £6k for it......does that mean it's now really worth £6k. In fact I'll sell you a brand new one for £5k and deliver it to Scotland. Ooops I can't actually do that I sold the last one yesterday, and there is free beer in my local pub tomorrow. And the cow really did jump over the moon :D :D

Wise words Nigel!

I,m certain that there are dealers in the network who will relish my business. Just gotta find them now!;)

As I put in my other thread I am now free to say what I really mean !!!!

The dealership that I work in have taken two 999R's in PX for 1098's first I think it is a mistake but that is my opinion, more of that soon. The first was a Fila BP R yes I know, it was a one off for a specific customer. The customer was happy with the deal we did for him we had the R in the showroom 30 mins. The next was a plain !!!! red one with a slipper clutch Power commander and quick shifter 04 plate that was in the showroom 4 days. That customers tricolore will be with us next week again he is happy with the deal we did.
Now I cannot put costs/sold prices out of respect to our customers, look what they are selling for, check the dealers prices, some may have them in, or some of the older Fila ones at least, look around and know what it is worth.

Why do it though , yes the 1098's are gorgeous but it is an R, all 749/999 will be a rare bike in a couple of years, only in production for 4 years anyway. Same happened oh about 10 years ago, 888's remaining unsold with a couple of SP5's dotted around, prices kicked as the 916 was out. Now then today compare a 916 to an 888 and an SP ??????

KEEP THE XEROX IT IS BEAUTIFUL and in a couple of years will be ultra rare or do a deal that you will be happy with.
