Didn't spot triple TT Winner the late Phil Mellor ?

Phil Mellor made more than 40 starts on the Isle of Man's Mountain Circuit, since his debut in 1978 when he won the Lightweight Newcomers Manx Grand Prix. Mellor took no less than three Tourist Trophy outright wins, in the 1983 Junior race and 1984 Production 250, riding Yamaha machines, and in the 1986 Production Class B race, on a Suzuki 750.

On Wednesday afternoon, 07 June 1989, Phil Mellor was taking part in the four-lap 1300 Production Tourist Trophy race, riding a 1100 cm3 Suzuki GSXR K machine, bearing the race number #10. During his second lap, he was running in seventh position, in close company of Mike Seward and his Suzuki team mate Jamie Whitham. Mellor lost control of his machine on the approach to the sweeping Doran's Bend left-hander, near the village of Peel, slid off the road, and struck a stone wall on the right side, receiving grevious injuries. He was conveyed by helicopter to Noble's Hospital in Douglas, where the veteran racer died a few hours later.
