Kawasaki KR1000 Endurance Replica

Where was it on the original that you are replicating?
It wasn’t - it’s just a nice to have though as I’m unsure the oil level sensor these engines used works yet and they haven’t been available for more than 10 years… I was thinking of just fitting it low down for the initial start up, then removing, but it might look good on the dash permanent 🤔

Still lots of fettling / tidying and then final polishing but I threw it together today to get an idea of the final assembly. Not quite happy with the overall profile yet so more changes to come...

Not sure about the gauge yet - it looks passable here, although I'm thinking I might just use it as a set up tool. I may also mount it further back nearer the oil cooler so it's more obscure if I leave it on permanently

Being the rev counter is so large and black, it draws the eye in a way that the oil gauge doesn't, so doesn't look out of place
True - it doesn't look so large in real life btw: the face is 70mm dia.

Another concern is the gauge will add too much weight and start to twist the assembly clockwise - if you study the second picture you can see the rev counter and new alloy plate are mounted on three looped pieces of rubber to give it damping. This is part of the original Rev Counter design. I might add some holes for a sub bracket to mount the pressure gauge that I can blank if not used (y)

Just looking at the oil pressure gauge scale, is it a bit high for your engine ? Only asking as I'm sure my Z900 engine has a very low oil pressure due to the crankshaft roller bearings. Is your's the same ?
Bike's coming along nicely (y)

It is low pressure, 15psi gauge not 15 bar 👀
Tick over is 4 psi I think.

These gauges were made for someone in the US for Z engines, you can’t get them direct from the German manufacturer for some reason, and no 10psi gauges seem to be available when I checked. Not sure what they get to on full chat so maybe more than 10psi is needed 🤷‍♂️

Tapped the 3 holes for the grub screws that allow the puller pint to be tightened - had to order a long M4 tap as a standard one wouldn't reach the 25mm depth required. It felt well dodgy tapping it out and I had to wind the tap all the way out several times to clear the crud. All three completed and the tap didn't break in 🥵

Fitted the tapered threaded plugs to block the old Nitrous Fogger Holes in the Cylinder Head - was going to use Loctite but decided to go with Three-Bond which I felt would give a better seal. Luckily being tapered they can never wind themselves into the engine! They locked off just sub flush with the inlet bore which was nice...

New inlet rubbers fitted - I might cheat with the Carbs and take them to my mates as he will be doing the Dyno Set Up, so better he strips and cleans the carbs I think then he knows they are right 🤪 - he has a large Sonic Cleaner too. Saves me stripping them, taking the bodies down for the Sonic Cleaning and losing bits!

Oiked out the old GPz logo from the ignition pick up cover now I'm using the original pick-ups and Igniter Box (if it works)

There was a 2mm ridge on the outside and a 1mm high level on the inside - attacked with a powerfile and some Ninja Skills :ninja:

Finished polishing last night to a not too blingy hue...

Whipped the rear section of the Exhaust off today to fit the Oil Level Sensor which has been thoroughly cleaned out and tested... then re fitted the Exhaust :)

Just small jobs this week, I've been decorating the Hall which I've neglected over the last 3 weeks, trying to get it finished for Christmas 👀
