having had a few german cars, porsche and bmw, i would go bmw every time.
practical, stylish, lots of engine variations tho i favour the straight 6, i did love the m3 v8.
the straight 6 engine in the e46 was my fave, wish id kept that.
air cooled porsches were the best built, the most recent are back on track, but the old ones were like athletic tanks.

Does anybody favour Mercedes? I rather like the SL Roadsters, good with the roof down. I have an SLK 200
not a blistering performance car but enjoyable for open top driving.

Kept the Skoda ... it’s amazing to be fair, got winter tyres on and it has been brilliant in the snow, I also have business use insurance so I can go gathering small jobs so I’m hoping with upcoming snow I can find some boxes or similar to collect in the Yorkshire dales so I can go do a bit of snow driving it drives superb 4x4 and 140 hp and apparently 170 hp is easily got with a remap £400.... I don’t think it needs it though ... ok maybe I should anywayJust rebadge it..... it can be anything you want with a little imagination

do your research and youll be fine. ive had front engined, water cooled and now a gt3. if its cheap compared to other similar cars its cheap for a reason. they have maintenance costs commensurate with car that that cost what it did when new. make sure to have a contingency fund otherwise you might get chipped on price when moving it on if theres stuff that should reasonably have been sorted.

I still like my Mercedes E250 Estate. I’ve had it 8.5 years, done 70,000 miles in it, and all it’s needed is filling with diesel and a wash every few hundred miles, an annual service, and replacement tyres and wiper blades every couple of years.
Totally reliable, comfortable, safe, but boring as anything. When I finally replace it, I’m fancying a Bentley: another comfortable touring car. Or an E63!
My previous car was an S500L - I got rid with nearly 60k miles and glad to see it go. Funnily (no, not funnily...infuriatingly) as soon as the warranty ran out stuff started breaking; water pump x 2; air suspension; water leak in the passenger footwell; various scary noises from the engine and gearbox. Put me off modern mercs. My parents had a few when I was growing up - I'd have a 70's 450SLC for nostalgia.
E63's are pretty cool and nowadays very cheap for what you get - I've had my 635d four years now and apart from a battery, tyres and servicing, it's been a dream. Someone paid £65k for it new in 2011, now worth around £8-9k.
