Laavas new project. Cadet/Mountaineer

Right so got a chance to start assembling. Managed to fit the swing arm, chain guard and foot rests with new rubbers. I am going to have to make a new centre stand pin as it was very flogged out. The pin wasnt too bad. It started life as a12mm pin that projects out to the left and mounts the brake lever. It was worn but the major wear was actually to the centre stand and frame. I ran a13mm drill bit thru it all and it straightened out nicely so now I have to make a pin that is 13mm where it goes thru the frame and stand and only 12mm where it goes thru the brake lever. I will just rush out and buy a lathe!

So got and fitted the new rear shocks today. From China. I gave them the bounce test and they have zero rebound damping. They are also very light weight and I suspect they have no oil in them!😂😂😂
Ironically the quality is shocking which is something I guess?
I am going to remove the springs and paint the shock body red at some point. Maybe I can tip some oil in at that point?
Did I mention they were cheap?

Coming on well chap. If they were that cheap, are they shock look a likes but only operate as a spring?

Correct. Nastiness. The chrome looks alright tho. The problem is finding anything that size, as in small enough diameter so it fits on with the correct length. Whole bike only weighs 70kg so they needed to be skinny jobs…
 
So time for the front suspension to go on. I had to source some special felt to make the seals for the top of the sliders. I had two goes at it as I cut them a couple of mm short first time round. The felt comes about 8mm thick and once I split it and soaked it in oil it was about right. First time I have seen this setup. There is nothing at all inside the slider other than a tab that the bottom of the spring rotates into. You tip 20cc of oil in the fork slider, slip it on and then twist the whole thing onto the spring.

No, that does not apply to this bike. I did look on both pairs of forks. The bike is a 1964 if it is a three speed but I have since found out that the frame is a four speed so1965-67. The frame number is on it, there is no other info as they used to apply it with an adhesive backed ali label if it was sold for road use. AFAIK.
 
Very very hard to get information. There is no workshop manual so you have to rely on the parts manual and the owners manual. Both of which I have. Pretty sure I got the paint colour wrong. But it is a Ducati colour and looks the business

Hmmm... just a random question, but how comes you like building bikes that you are slightly to large to ride?
 
Right, small stuff happening in the background. And kitchen is it turns out. I was innocently stewing some carburettor parts in muriatic acid on the drainerboard of the sink, whilst simultaneously(that means, at the same time) boiling the fuck out of the previously acid dipped bits, when my wife comes into the rooms asking what the hell am I doing? Turns out, that was a rhetorical question(that means it does not need to be answered as the answer is evident) and she went back to bed and left me cleaning it all up. Little bit more boiling and we all ready for a light bit of bead blasting. Purely for aesthetic(that means, how it looks pleasing) reasons. The thing is tiny and I struggle cleaning things this small as they are hard to hold onto… feel like I just set myself up for something there…
Anyhow I took a photo and will semi assemble it before blasting which will be done with the levers and perches…hopefully by the time I am done farting about with this lot I will get my bars and other bits back from the chromers!

First rule of fight club. Never get caught using wimmins office (kitchen) to clean your bike stuff
Second rule of fight club (to avoid a fight) never tell said wimmins you're using her office (kitchen) for your bike stuff
