Winter Project

Well I’ve found my winter project :D

Just bought an absolute steal of a 900 Monster. She’s a bit of a minter! A ’96 and falls right before Ducati changed the valves and cams  There’s 13,200 on the clock with full service history...the full 12,000 service was done only last month.

There were loads of extras…all of which will be stripped off and up for sale…all apart from the mint Marchesini wheels…they’re mine, all mine

Suffice to say that come next spring she ain’t gonna look anything like she does at the moment. She’s going to be stripped right down to the frame and built again from scratch. This is going to be the Monster that shall remain in my life forever, no matter what other bikes may come and go.

And…best of all, I’ll also have a tasty little 750 for the track

He should be turning in his grave for ever putting one on there in the first place ;)

The new bike arrived this morning woohoo! I just had to have a play around on her before taking her to bits. First off…I cannot believe the condition she’s in…absolutely mint!!!

The last one I couldn’t wait to strip because it was so shabby, but this one, well I might just play around on her for a wee bit longer :D I did begin the tail chop this afternoon though…not having a Monster with one of those bloody things :watchout:

Monster owners are like vultures...I've sold the fly screen and the carbon fibre side panels already

She’s a very different bike to the 750…much, much smoother for a start, especially low down. That’ll probably go after fitting the FCR’s and pod filters though. The power seems effortless…very little torque compared to the 750 though…for now ;) I took her to Drysdale’s for a dyno run this morning, to be able to use as a base line before tuning her up…and right enough, the line was pretty flat.

As for handling, well it’s unbelievable compared to the 750…maybe I’m not such a sh*te rider after all :p It’s brilliant…just falls into corners so easily…the 750 feels like such a fight. Why is this though? Is it because of the different riding position? The 900 is still stock, so very upright compared to the clip-on/rearset set up on the 750. I really hope it’s not because of this though…as I plan to fit the 900 with them too.

Even the colour! I’ve never been a big fan of red Monsters, but then again I’ve only ever seen pictures of them. I have to admit in the flesh the red is pretty striking. It’ll still need to be re-sprayed though, to blast off those bloody ‘Monster’ decals!

Anyway...I just thought I'd give you wee update :)

eonan, I reckon your 750 is a fight coz of that giant rear hoop you've got, 4.5" mate - you know it makes sense!! ;)

Don't forget those discs!!! ;)

Honestly mate I'm so chuffed. The brake calipers are mint Brembo billet 'GP's (£200 each) and the master cylinder is a Brembo 'GP' Radial (another £160).
And none of it was even mentioned as a selling point

But the 900 has a 5.5 as well

Actually I might have to let you down on the discs :( they're mint an' all :D

Really sorry :o

mate, with that brake set-up you are right to hang onto them. If they've got nice soft race pads in you have a winning set-up. Again my Santamonica had that exact set-up and for track use it is brilliant, so for road use it is perfect!!!

no worries!;)

the other thing is that the tyres might be responsible for different turn-in rates. Hey sounds and looks like a crackin' piece of kit mate, I'm pleased for you. :)

I wondered about the tyres...on the 750 they're Pilot Power 2CT's...on the 900 they're Dunlops. The Dunlops look much flatter than the rounded Michelins...but would that not make the Dunlops harder to corner? Sorry for the dumb ass questions again :fou:

All righty then...I'm all set for an evening of reckless spending. The Dollar is almost two to the Pound, I have one credit card with some credit left on it and two bottles of nice wine to make hitting that 'Buy It' button all the easier :drunk:

...right - if there's wine flowing - I'll be round shortly!!
If there's money being spent - I'll be round with my wares shortly!!

As far as tyres are concerned it's very much a personal thing; what is one persons poison is anothers nectar etc. Whichever one you prefer, wait till the others' are worn out and replace them with what your favourites are! :)

To be honest I was so dissapointed in the sound of the Termi's...I'd never heard any in real life, just read descriptions, so I was pretty excited about firing her up for the first time :(

But this morning I realised that the cans had baffles fitted. So...out they came ;)

And? Oh my good god  I wept the sound was so beautiful :faint:

He! He! I like it. :D Listen to the music Niall. :hail:

Like Tam I had Bos cans on my SS. They came with dB killers - I had them out within a week and they never went back. The Sil Motors have a nice big 50mm hole all the way through them and you've heard what they sound like.

...The delicate sound of Thunder....

an old cliche I know!

someone's on the ball - even at this late hour, I'm off to bed, got a Yorkshire lass who wants to break the fast at 8am tomorrow!!!

Goddamit...I can't wait until winter...it's just too tempting :comp2: :D So at the end of day one she now looks like...
