Hi there.
I'm new - this seems like a great website.

I'm hoping to buy a 916. :D :D

Is there anything I should check?
Are there any known problem areas?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Check every single minor detail, IE like frame no's and on V5's, even ring Ducati UK for there confirmation and any previous owners and dealers...

Full service history with belt changes done on time.
Check if rockers on the early models have been replaced as they are pricey, there was a recall on the rear hub too.

Rust around the fuel tank cap can drop inside and block fuel filters.
The cush drive inserts can 'walk' out of their seats and wear against the swingarm.
Full service history with belt changes done on time.
Check for the toolkit,it should include a c-spanner to adjust the chain,if it doesnt check the adjuster hasn't been chewed up by someone using a mallet and screwdriver.

It'll sound like its never going to start when you press the button.....and then like a cement mixer full of spanners when it does....thats normal.

Pre 97 models had weak regulator/rectifiers.
All the usual stuff you need to check on a second hand bike.

And check it got a service history too!:D

Lets be serious. If you are thinking about buying a bike of this age/vintage.The possibility of a dealer service history is pretty slim. Most owners of these old bikes will now be carrying out there own maintenence or using an independant specialist.

But don't let the comics-motorcycle mags put you of Ducati ownership.

They aint that bad.
