What the feck have you done today?

Incoming weekend work....might fit the chain to the hyper - im 50/50 at the moment as i kinda think although stretched a bit the sprockets are in good nick...not sure....got a set of ti bolts for the generator side as all the ones in there arent really the correct length. Oil change on the SXV to do....its under its 500 mile change time but with that motor...i think fresh oil is the best insurance... this is a little bit academic as if the weather holds we might hit loomies...see how that goes...

Years ago I had a Krico semi-auto .22 rimfire. It wouldn't work with subsonics as the didn't recoil enough to operate the reload mechanism so I had to use high velocities. The noise scared the rabbits so every hunting trip degenerated into a plinking session. Every fence post got splintered and I once blew away a whole box of ammo boffing an old can of sheep marker spray from one side if a 60 acre field to the other.

Yep that is the thing for sure. I have a Marlin s/a that I have used mainly for possums but have shot rabbits too quite a bit. Also a few rats, one stoat and one feral cat. I found that subsonic ammo seems to also vary a bit from one shot to the next in power and a cheaper brand, like Stirling is a joke. You can hear the difference, crack pew phut etc. but good quality with a moderator is pretty good for night shooting when all is quiet. Love a good .22!

A .22 semi auto on a plinking range is some of the best fun you can have with a gun.
I used to sit at my patio table in my old house and belt the smallest apples off a big bramley tree in the garden. Had a rising hill behind so good back stop. They exploded with a whump and a great cloud of pips and moisture. Never got tired if that.
I later taught my nephew to shoot with apples. I picked up golf ball sized windfalls and set the on garden canes about 50 yards away in the field and he smoked them with my HMR.

I always shot Lapua subs and they were brilliant. Then one batch I bought seemed to have a lot of wax on the bullets. They were terrible and I could never get the rifle to shoot Lapuas again. Went over to Winchester subs and they were fine. Shot thousands of rabbits with those and a digital night vision scope.

Never saw the point of HVs in a .22. Same amount of noise as an HMR with half the power. Never use my .22 for anything but subsonics now. If you want to feed yourself a good .22 is the most useful rifle there is. And they're a laugh.
 
We used to call that last picture crab apples. I know it's not the right word for them but being t'e poor in the summer time, free fruit was always in demand. Veg not so much 🤮
