What the feck have you done today?

Its not a pc....the core is an ASRock BS-250 mining rig...looks like a graphics card, but is in fact a standalone machine - you clip an NVME disk to it and its technically live...heres a tear down of how it all goes together...

The variation comes from the PSU that you use....theres lots of form factors...standard ATX, custom, ex server psu's - the psu's denote the type of case that you end up with...went with that one above as i already have one of those psu's - heres another one with a slightly different setup...and some video at the end showing the performance...the hardest part is flashing the custom bios which makes the graphics and os memory dynamically adjust itself - the key to making it all work...

Ali Express is the best place to buy as now the cats out of the bag the prices are going up...

You can go cheaper for the build as mines got a 2tb drive in it and has some blingy RGB..!

The OS is a custom Bazzite build - select the options on their site and then download the image, burn to a usb stick and install...reboots, comes back up, boots into the os and then automatically launches steam.

I know its not really the right place - anyone that wants to know more just PM me.

Cheers.

Did make me realise how out of date I am with regards to hardware, must catch up and have a better look at all this.

Like the idea of building something. 🤔

Went to see dad today, 95 days after being admitted to an "assessment ward". It looks like we are in the home straight as the 117 assessment discharge plan is now to be put to a panel board, to ensure he's not an unsafe discharge and his moving forward into a suitable home is appropriate.

Just on the back of chatting in another thread about the global economy going to shit....any of you nerds out there (ram prices are skyrocketing at the moment) so if anyone needs a gaming box then this is a great alternative....built this a few weeks back, its an old ex 5 year old mining rig that sat in a rack of 12 in a data centre digging up Bitcoin...

All in cost about 500 quid ( 64gb of memory now costs close to a grand) and does 1080p gaming smooth. No windows licence - runs on linux all you need are your steam account details and off you go. As this is a hacked solution performance is being gained at a nice rate....from a software front everything is free (bar what games you pay for on steam)

Edit: just to add as it does run on linux theres a full featured desktop behind so you can use it like a normal pc...
I understood the first line

That sounds as positive as it can be Noobs.

You know you're getting old when "friends with benefits" means a friend with a trailer and a welder you can borrow

West Cumbria should be a nice place. It's just neglected, out of the way and forgotton. Overshadowed by the lakes. I looked at a couple houses over there in Aspatria and Flimby. Cheap. You got a lot for your money. The house in Aspatria was huge and for nowt but tucked down an alley with no parking or anywhere for the bikes. I went door knocking to see if there was any chance of finding a garage or building to rent nearby. People I met were really nice but it became apparent that the council was waging a war against motorists and the local economy.
The south west coast from St Bees down to Witbeck I think is really nice. But it's the arse end of nowhere if you need to earn a living. I could live there if I had enough private means that I didn't need to work.

Rather live there than the lakes tbh. Lakes are beautiful but for four months of the year it's a congested theme park. Keeps the rain off the Pennines though..

It has a feeling about the place for me...like you say it feels like it's forgotten, but not in a good way like parts of Scotland or Ireland, which feel hidden instead, and there is a big difference.

Barrow in Furness is beautiful too 😁

Its a cool bit of kit when its all together.....take about 30 mins to put together....plug in a wireless module for a keyboard and mouse and a bluetooth dongle for the controllers and youre away....mine uses the network port but again you can go wireless....its bloody impressive for what it is....even if youre gonna do it just get the actual card from aliexpress and sit on it - theyre only going to go up as theres a finite supply of them...

Once mine was up and running i applied a mild overclock to it which gave me between 5 and 10% on the framerate...i cant be bothered to start messing around with the cooling...

Foraged some hazel catkins for my porridge, only a few per tree as I’ll be back for the nuts in the autumn.

Cuckoo Pint, which is poisonous. Birds can eat the berries when they are out and they are not affected which is odd.

Rear side panel just turned up for the sxv. Sounds a bit strange but now spares are getting thin on the ground its nice to go hunting...rear panels in black are rocking horse shit, scored a brand new one (even in the oem aprilia packaging). Also scored a 2nd hand rocker cover (again unobtainium) needs repainting but thats an easy thing to do.

If you can get the decals, then any panel can be wrapped in black
Ironically i dont need the stickers....gonna peel those off....as for wrapping....nah....it just goes shit....im building a black body kit then i can use a Supermoto set if i want to...or, just run it in plain black.

Edit - my mate has a wrapped RSV1000 in the playstation colours....the tank has bubble up, started peeling the belly pan has peeled....looks like a dogs dinner....hes gonna have to get it resprayed but his spring loaded wallet wont seem to open...

Cute wee dog, is Stewart ! 👍

Hey @Alan Williams have you been winding up the locals?

Last night I saw the Stark Varg in the flesh. A demonstrator was set up in our TRF hall and a rep gave us all the spiel

It's an 80 hp battery powered road legal dirt bike.

If you live beside endless trails it would be fun but in Dorset where there is a lot of road work between the trails the dreaded range anxiety would soon kick in, especially in the cold weather. There is a place for it but not in my stable.
