Yeah but have you got a Thudbuster ?I have a Giant Escaper 18 speed in gunmetal grey which was a 1988 model so I got it a bit cheaper in 1989. I also have a Ribble Audax with mainly Italian components (Campagnolo etc.) which I bought in 2009 (fraction of the big makes price in them days).

My bicycles don`t have any rear suspension, this never used to bother me in the slightest until I tried a bike that did have it at which point it suddenly came the most important thing to have . Immediately.
I can`t justify getting another bike as I only ride a few hundred miles a year and good bikes are not cheap but I was pointed in the direction of a seat suspension post and last week bought the very fabulously named Cane Creek Thudbuster ! Its a very simple thing ( like most of us) takes half a minute to fit and works blindingly well. I can use it on either bike so IMO a very cheap effective fix. It comes in 2 sizes and can be adjusted to cover a range of weights from Ethanopian to Lard Arse .
