What did you do in 2006?

Over the last year I have used the following in 12240 miles on the bikes.......

6 rear tyres
1 front tyre
1 battery
5 litres of oil
1 MOT
1 full service
1 set of front pads

Petrol was not measured but I reckon at around 40ish to the gallon.

Insurance for the year on a multi bike policy was £1140 fully comp with only 2 years NCB.

Riding gear was supplemented with a BMW System 5 Bluetooth helmet. And a apir of boots and gloves were acquired at the Riders for Health auction at Donington.

One minor spill at the BMW Off Road Skills day ended up with a fractured collar bone and a cut arm. I hasten to add it was on the way BACK to the HQ on the road and a car ran a red light.

Two bikes were replaced. The 1150 Adventure went and an HP2 arrived, and the 749r made way for the 999r Xerox. The V-Rod still lives on!

I did 7 trackdays and had a (mostly) great time. Left the track twice but stayed right side up and lived to tell the tale.

I finally took the plunge and bought an industrial Karcher hotwasher. Makes easy work of the clean ups.

I saw the MotoGP at Donington and camped for the 4 days. One of the best trips for a long time. I also attended the superb hospitality at Knockhill with Ducati Glasgow. And I took the HP2 to Ireland for 5 days. Brilliant riding and company and met a great guy, Irish Jonny, who also rode a 999. He even came over for BSB.

But most of all I had a great, safe year and I look forward to the dawning of 2007 and the challenges it will bring.

Happy New Year to you all!

Hmmmm

Took delivery of my Monster early January.

About 4500 miles, new back and front tyres. Would have been more miles but I broke my arm (not bike related) so was driven through France and Spain by car instead :( Was also pillion at the last Hartside meet as arm was not up to Ducati clutch-pulling strength

Oh yes, new clutch and brake levers, one of each, separate occasions....

Looking forward to getting abroad on the bike next year. Does Northern Ireland count?

Best part of 2006 was discovering this place :) met loads of great people and new friends, went on several meets inc the wet DL ride to Devils, RTL recce, RTL, DL ride to the west coast, couple of Hartside meets, several Whoop hall meets and Pibbows bash. thinkin back and looking at the foties in the archives its hard to believe it all happened in the same year.

I also got a new car and passed my A level psychology and GCSE English. Not a bad year for me really.

Cheers and Happy New Year to all DuN-ers

humm 2006 eh ,
has to be said its mighty impressive the number of events that have taken place which has to be said covers about half the country think ive only managed about 1/3 of the events though :(

errm 'only' droped bike 2 or 3 times this year
'only' got 3 points
proberly ran out of petrol a few times but no breakdowns
2 track events
actually done a bit of maintainance
errm must have done about 12k miles to go with 2 service intervals

Did three crappy race meetings on sidecar outfit, started work with a mate promising to teach me joinery stuff, moved up North with work, didn't learn fook all, didn't get paid very well, fell out with him.
Got work in, splashed out on my bike. After signing contract for my bike,we then had no work :-/

So pood me pants while bike was sat in garage cos i couldn't afford insurance.

Now have work, use bike, and i already need a new FOOKIN back tyre!

I love it though and i touch it all the time, bike that is,well, ahem!

Happy new year everyone, hope to meet some of you soon.

OK, let's see...hmmm...

Keepings things bike related, my biggest accomplishment in 2006 was to build a bike from scratch, race it, and even get a wee trophy! It's been a very satisfying project and it currently is in bits getting a few things done to it. Hopefully 2007 will continue in the same vein.

Took my 8 year old to see the MotoGP at Donington and camped as well. Despite the initial trepadations about dire predictions about traffic queues, etc. it was a fantastic adventure. Even had a hot shower in the mornings!

Was also lucky enough to see Nicky win his second US Grand Prix. Another fantastic race to see live although it was too bloody hot!

Happy New Year to all!

4000 Road Miles
2 sets of Tyres
1 MOT
1 Custom Map
2 Oil Changes
2 Trackdays
Several Rear Bulbs
1 New Clutch
And a Non endorsable offence :D

this year

went to Brno and saw Loris thrash the worlds best -
bought a KTM 950 SM - great bike -
went to Valencia and saw Valentino fall off !!! -
went to the pre RTL and the RTL and the midge masher and the Oban run - met some really nice folk
just booked Mugello (seats in the Ducati stand)

I think Ive just realised that the more you put into your year - the more you get out of it.
Roll on 2007

The weather was seriously poor early in the year, but I was lucky to have 3 weeks in New Zealand in April, staying with a mate who rides a 748. Was even luckier to be lent an 851 for the duration of my stay, by one of his mates.

When the weather improved a bit back here I took the 916SPS on my annual pilgimage to the Isle of Man TT races.
1 final lap of the Mountain course on the last day meant the clutch began to slip and it didn't get me all the way home, but it was worth it.

Rebuilt the (1994) 900SS at last, so the SPS is now off domestic duties and is reserved for its intended purpose of evening and weekend rides.

2007,
Must do more rides north,
Will be at the TT again,
maybe a trackday or two,
Lots more global warming please so I dont have to wait till June to get the SPS out.

Steve

Probably about 10,000 miles across two bikes. Mountain Biking at Glentress, our inaugural meet I believe, Mad March Mini Mega Meet, missed the wet DL event - knackered electrics traced ultimately to poor alarm connections, RTL recce (broken headlight), RTL itself, the Hartside Meets, Dalesman's Dash, Midgie Masher, Whoop Hall meets, organised all my Tuesday evening rides and first Sunday of Month rides and a lot more too. Oulton Park trackday, Cadwell trackday. Three sets of tyres across both bikes, buying the Monster of course, lots of bleeding clutches :) (and new internals), three sets of pads across both bikes, full service on 996 just done, Monster being done, new forks to fit, new dash to make, new tyres to get, blah, blah. Plenty of mountain biking. Climbing holiday to Sardinia, new route in the Lakes with my lad and my best mate. Joined here, met loads of great people and had a great time with them. Next year - oh, more of the same I reckon.

well ...

Bought and sold: 05 Fireblade, new GS1200 and 01 996

Bought and kept a new R1200R, 05 GSXR 750 and an 84 250LC

Did about 11,000 miles in total including RTL which was brilliant :D and the Nurburgring with Mav and a host of mates - superb (if absolutely soaking) trip  8 of us also raided Normandy in early October which was great fun. Most BSB meetings except Knockhill - will change that this year!

Don't even want to know how much 2006 cost me in bike related costs but don't regret a penny - fave purchase was my Edwards Valencia Arai, might get another to put in a glass case :)

All the very best to you all for the New Year!

yea i had a great year on the bike this year too, even if i had 2 knee operations to contend with which kept me off work for 7 months, all in i done 8000 miles on the 749, very happy miles too, made it to RTL & met lots of new faces, made it to the midge masher also which was a blast & a half.

Bit the bullit & got over my fear of riding the 749 on the track ( Martin Twisted my arm ) Had the widest smile on the planet afterwards.

Had a great time at the Crail Thrash (nothing to do with the private eyes girls at night) :D Blew my clutch up on the 3rd run but Ran a 10.7 on the 1/4 mile which im extremely happy with.

Spent a fortune which would take me a while to sit & calculate.

Looking very much forward to 2007.

My biking 2006

returned to biking in 2006 after 20 years away, so a good year then. bought a Harley V Rod in January and did 1200 miles, then swapped it for the Screamin Eagle version in March (someone ordered it but couldn't take delivery, saw it winking at me at Edinburgh Harley and thought, "what the heck, i've never had a 130mph chromium armchair before"). I've done 1600 miles on that.

Ordered a 999S in June, and was persuaded to buy the R instead in August. Lucky I got a discount, as it will (only) partly compensate for the massive depreciation hit now that the 1098 has been produced. Life's a bitch (for the ill-informed)! Managed to squeeze 1200 miles on the Ducati until cold weather and wet roads forced it into the garage. did 2 track days at Knockhill, which were fun and terrifying in equal measure. i visited the kitty litter on the first outing which was a pant wetting experience, even if i did manage to stay upright. would a replacement carbon fibre faring be expensive do you think?

I hit a pheasant at 70 mph one sunday morning on the Harley. It was like head butting a frozen chicken, my neck hurt for days. Still, I probably did better than the pheasant.

Looking forward to 2007.

I sold all my bikes to Gypsies.

Except the V-Rod. Even the Gypsies said no to it. I asked if they would perhaps steal it but they shouted indignantly that even they would not stoop that low!

Bummer.:(

2006

2006 started with:
jerez moto gp: good moments loris winning, hundreds of bikes pulling wheelies outside hotel.
bad moments rossi dropping it first corner, hundreds of bikes pulling wheelies at 5am outside hotel.

Done a couple of track nights,
Done a track day school with california bike school.
Went to donington gp(best moments;grabbing a shower while 3,000 englishman watched england fail again to progress,
worst moments dani pedrosa.
September 2006 picked up my first ducati.
Found this web site
Next year;misano,donington,knockhill,
Trackdays knockhill, and hopefully jerez and donignton, hopefully meet some of u next year at trackdays or the organised runs!

Finally escaped from London and moved back to Edinburgh. Second best decision I ever made. :)

After years of dicking around on Jap bikes, finally got my act sorted and got my first Ducati. Best decision I ever made. :D

For 2007:

-Knockhill
-Isle of Man. Not for the TT. Just for a long weekend and a serious blast around the course with a mate.
-Meet up with some of you lot for a ride!
-BSB at knockhill
-One European moto gp. Haven't decided which one.
-Route Napoleon. I hear its an awesome road.
-Get laid. 2006 was a bit of a drought for me! ;)

i look forward to meeting you guys on the track, im hoping to do lots of trackdays this year as well. :)

Where to begin...

First off serviced the 999 and had the 1st Winter Warmer, saw a Desmo engine up close at JHP :D

First ride of the year was the the inpromptu Easter meet

Couple of MTB rides round Glentress

Burns night up in Jock land

Moved house

Then started the trackdays again.... started doing a few try out days as an instructor for No Limits

Hizzy Run

RTL

Oulton Trackday

More trackdays

Bought a KTM950SM ran it in over 5 days in Scotland.... met Ed!!!

More trackdays and instruction concluding with 3 days in Jerez

Rides out round Wales with a few peeps.

Various WSB/BSB meets

Desmosedici launch in England and Scotland

Greenlaning at the end of November round the peak district and off-roading in Nevada in December.

Probably done 5000 miles this year, 3000 on the KTM (Since September) and got through probably 4 front tyres and 8 rears (non on the KTM in 3k though) on the 999 on track I'm guessing.

I did about 14,000 miles this year, but alas less on the Ducati than normal.

Highlight of the year for me Ducati wise was RTL (although i missed Saturday as i was driving back from France in the car) and in particular riding back over Shap at a brisk pace in company with half a dozen others.

Did a couple of track days at Oulton which were great fun.

Swopped dirt bikes during the year and got a Yam WR 450. Did a 2 day 450 mile green lane trip. Despite the NERC bill restricting where we can ride had a superb time off roading everywhere from Northumberland down to Wales, and marshalled at the Welsh 2 day enduro which turned out to be more fun than riding it. We had free range to a 20 mile loop in the forest of stuff we can't normally ride, including some metal hill climbs that aren't part of the course. but get us from part to the next (you obviously can't ride against the flow of bikes on the course).

The KTM 950 Adventure has been superb fun and probably the best all round bike i've ever owned, fun on road and capable off road for such a big bike.
Did 2 camping weekends in Derbyshire with lots of off roading. Same again in North Yorkshire. Also went island hopping and off road in the Hebrides, as well as blasting up and down some beach on the 950, awesome fun.

Literally the highpoint of the year was riding down to the Alps on the 950, then going off road and reaching just under 10,000 feet high on the highest legal dirt track in Europe.

Other than that a pretty quiet year, first time in years i've not done at least 2 continetal trips on the bike, though did France twice in the car with the family as well.

On the beach complete with panniers and camping gear. wouldn't fancy this on the 996:D

2006 for me was an all new experience.

Walked out of my decent, well paid job into the jobless unknown.

Moved up to the Highlands on Christmas eve (2005)

2 mortgages & a bridging loan  until February until house in England sold

Started my new Bed & Breakfast business officially beginning of March

Discovered the Highlands on the Imola in April - wow!!!

Was introduced to DuN by dseered in May (cheers Ian) which opened up so many aquaintances.

Ran the Imola for the first time at Knockhill at Martin's track eve - loved it and did a further two - will be back

BSB Knockhill, met alot of you - great crowd

Chopped in the Gilera for my Guzzi California EV - love it.

Desmosedici launch in Glasgow

-1 set of tyres
-1 set of EBC double H pads for the Imola
-uprated Cali's brakes with Brembo full floaters and HH pads  :eek:stops as quickly as the Imola now (well nearly)
-a fair few litres of 20-50 oil
-1 rear cylinder head 'o' ring (Ba*tard thing)

Haven't looked back on our old life in the south, we have made some wonderful new friends and the area is breathtaking.

Have had over 130 guests stay including Lily, Freak, Linzi, Gizmo, Tam and Davieravie (albeit Davie for my labour services and a free breakfast:eek: ) It was great to meet you guys and we had a great day's riding (read thrashing later in the day) in perfect conditions.

Judging by last year, 2007 is going to be fantastic, I'm going to thrash the pants off the Imola at Knockhill as much as possible, I'm going to try and get down to the DuN trackday wherever it ends up taking place, make a few bob doing what I love (not working for anybody except myself!) and enjoy life to the full!! :)
