Hey guys!!

Have just got back from abroad, and to say I want to get back onto 2 wheels is an understatemant!!!:o

SO, since I no longer have my 999r, I have been looking at the 1098s. Does anyone have any comparisons to make, ie' riding positions etc!!

Have seen one (1098s), and before I book a test ride, I could do with some input!! (All welcome)!!;)

Cheers

Best thing since sliced bread! Done 3800 miles in three months on mine. Only just killed the tyres. Buy one now. No apologies for totally biased opinion. :D

I ordered a 1098 but switched to a 999 after test riding both. I felt the 1098 riding position pitched me too far forward and it wasn't much fun to drive in town, which I do a lot. The 999 (Bip) is just slightly softer than the 1098, and you can vary your riding position more, which suits me perfectly. I've done 360 miles in one trip on it with no problems.

It's all personal, really - your size, weight, where you live and the kind of roads you drive, what you use the bike for - the only thing to do is try it and see!

This months T.W.O has a direct comparison between the 998r and a 1098. Not like for like but you may find it interesting reading!

Cheers guys. Think I'll get the T.W.O mag to check it out!!

Rockjock, does it not give you any grief on your wrists?? And how is the bike shop going!!:)

Steve,

Finally tracked a copy down today, I see what you mean the "missing numbers" now. They are there if you look very closely, a trick of the light.

TWO's Photographer took well over 100 shots of the bike, the light was going from full sun to overcast all the time, for the close up stuff he used loads of artificial light, was interesting to see how much time was spent on just the piccies.

I have a 999R and a 1098S. I like them both. 1098S is quicker and better handling (lighter and sharper into corners). The riding position isn't that different between the two I don't think. I think that the 999R is more "special", which I accept is totally subjective. I like the narrower tank (plus it's metal so you can have a magnietic tank bag for longer trips), the adjustable rearsets and basically the quirky looks. Also all the carbon on it.

The 999R is better built also. On my 1098S, I have had the rear seat air vent fall out and the exhaust heat shield break off. It feels more of a flung together affair than the flawless finish and handbuilt feel of the 999R.

No doubt the 1098 "R", or whatever they call it will be "special" too. mind you, at £22k (or whatever they'll charge), it ought to be. by then the desmo will be here so who cares?!

Hi,

I have a 1098s Tricolore and its the best thing I've ever ridden (the red 1's are a little tooooo red, but still very good). However I agree with you about town riding though its not as easy as my old 749s was, but I try and avoid towns like the plague. The size's between the 999 and 1098 are a maximum of approx 20/30mm difference all round I think?. On a long trip I definately prefer the 1098 over my old 749 or 998, its a much more comfortable ride. The wrist problems on a 1098 only show with me after 250 miles of riding and I'm not the most athletic of people at 16st. When at WDW2007 it rides the twisties like its on rails and another friend who I met at WDW who has a Tricolore loves it that much he's done around 7k in 3 months and about 1600 in 2 weeks in Italy. I've only had mine for 3 months and its done just over 2k. I maybe wrong but in my opinion the 1098 took the best bits from a 999 and the looks from 998.....

Hope this helped...

Thanks guys!! Yep, that has helped heaps!! Have got my eye an a 1098s Tricolore (think I've spelt that well wrong!!).

Gonna go and check it out this weekend. Will let you know how it gows!!:o

I was never really taken by the 1098 However since riding out with Samie on his on Saturday I'm most impressed, every where we stopped his Tricolor drew lots of attention. They look far better on the road than in showrooms.
Just wish i could afford one...
Now where did i put that sawn off shot gun & balaclava

Have jumped the gun and paid the deposit on the tricolore!! Ouch!!

Pick it up in a couple of weeks; can't wait now!!:lol2:

Just an up-date!!!

Took a 1098s out for a test-ride today at Ducati Manchester (Thought i better had even though I've already put down the deposit for the 'Tricolore':o )

'What a machine'. Couldn't stop grinning for about an hour, and it felt much quicker than my 999r was. More comfortable too!!

Cant wait till next week!!!:D :D :D
