Hi . Needing new tyres for my Ducati 748R . I'm a new ducati owner and wondered what the best tyres for the job of fast road use would be any ideas . thought te pirelli supercoursa pro . cheers :)

hey there, welcome to DuN :)

tried dragon evo corsa's on my 996 and they were awesome! got standard Diablos on the 749 and they pretty good too but not quite as confidence inspiring?

Never tried the ones you enquiring after.....yet!

BFM Shipley good place to get 'em too

Supercorsas as good as anything. There aren't any bad tyres any more, there really aren't. Michelin Pilots good, Freak likes his Dunlops, Bridgestone 014's on my monster, whatever. Diablos too. Pick a tread pattern that you like. Then just nail it. Use 180's at the rear, helps turn in.

I agree they're all so good these days, pick a tread pattern!!! - like that one Pete.
I just scrubbed in a new set of Rennsports which feel lovely. Basically Supercorsas (got them cheap) with Metzeler written on the sides. Can't wait to get them to Knockhill to run rings around Weeian (especially at the hairpain!!!) :p

...sorry Ian

When he comes back from Jerez he's gonna be a track god, but that hairpin might bring back painful memories :D

hairpain??? wot 't fecks that?

I did so fall for the squiggly wormy patterns on the Pilots I have to say. However it's the blatantly striking geometric angularity of the Supercorsas that floats my boat now. Metzelers always looked rather "busy" in an Art Deco sort of way - quite frightened me (visually) on occasions. The minimalist simplicity of the new Avon Viper Extreme was rather fetching on a quick visit to Jordan's Bikes in Leeds last evening.

Oh, yes, we have a new recruit now I believe. My mate Dale2, who was with us at Kendal on Sunday on the Yam, took a fair liking to the 749 they had in stock. Just needs to clear it with 'er indoors and the deal is done. Watch this space.

im very much looking forward to it now ! :p

im a pirelli man but after using the michelin's at Jerez, i love both.

power race looked awsome on Ronnies bike.

I switched to Michelin power race now, still love my 209GP's but Michelins are as good.

For fast road use you probably still need a road tyre, changing conditions, wear rates, heat cycles etc

I've got Pirelli Scorpions on the KTM and I have to say it's the best road tyre I've had, standard fitment on a Multi also, but for some reason hard to come by, so next time it will probably be Michelin 2CT's or standard Diablo's I guess

Well since posting earlier in this thread I've scrubbed in the Rennsports and they are great. Trouble is the rear, being a 180 now has ruined the sweet quick steering bike that I had. I may still try them at Knockhill but they are probably gonna be up for grabs (with less then 50 miles on the road on Sunday)
So I've managed to secure another set of Dragon Evos in 120/170 which I've learned Pirelli are re-making in batches of 3000 at a time. They may be 'old hat' now to some of you 'got have the latest' boys but they are still a great road tyre and this size combination suits the Imola so well as it was designed around these sizes.
Still, the 120/160 Pilot Race combination I use for the track is still the best of all as it feels like a 250 the way it turns in so quickly. Ian and Claire I'm sure notice this with their DD bikes. :)

Ed, Pirelli did a 170S version of the Dragon Evo for Suzuki 600 SRADS late nineties, it wasn't a full 170 width probably somewhere between a 160 and 170, they wanted to make it look like it had a big tyre. I used them on my 668 Laverda at the time, it was a good compromise between quick handling and angled over grip.

I remember that one Michael, I reckon the 170/60 is best suited to a 5" rim but having 5.5" (being standard size on 900ss/M900 models) the 170 was plonked on that. I do run off the edge of it slightly but that's only with looney riding.
Its still better than a 180 on the back though.

Well having ragged std Diablo's round Brands Hatch all day on Friday and Practice / Qualifying + 2 races on Sunday I have to say I love 'em, will be fitting some to the Multi when the Racetecs have worn out - I can't imagine you would need much more on the road, although the racebike does only have 53 BHP :)

although the racebike does only have 53 BHP :)

Type L twin cylinder, 2 valve Desmodromic, air cooled
Displacement 583 cc

Torque 50 Nm - 5.1Kgm @ 6000 rpm
Fuel system
2 x 38 mm Mikuni Carburettors
Exhaust 2 aluminium mufflers
Type Gear
5 speed with straight gears
Ratio 1a 40/16, 2a 36/21, 3a 32/24, 4a 29/27, 5a 28/29

Straight cut gears; Ratio 1,85
Final drive Chain Front sprocket 15; Rear sprocket 46

Where did you find the 2 extra bhp from Ian? ;) and does this mean I am no longer buying the tyres off you as they are shagged:D

I only know that it has 53 from the dyno charts I have, from my limited knowledge though dyno's can vary so it is open to interpetation - as far as I am aware it is bog standard, certainly no faster than the bikes I was racing with !

As for your tyres I will try and get 'em to the PO as soon as, in all honesty they are in better nick than the ones I have on the racebike and they were brand new Friday morning, looking very sorry for themselves on the right edge now :(

this control tyre lark is great isn't it. It gives a very level playing field.
I have always wanted the most sticky tyres I could find for the road, but race series like these with std road tyres just shows, as Ian said, how good sports tyres are these days.
As I said earlier, Dragon Corsa Evos rock, - mind you Ian, I rapidly overheated them after six laps of Knockhill last year, I quickly swapped them for the Pilot Races. But as you said, the tuned 900 makes a few more horses than a little 600. :)
