Can anyone with a 749 do a throttle constant run at 6k RPM and see what speed you are doing, I just want to see how the gearing has altered the speed, so yours must be running the standard gearing.

Many thanks !

Just been out today.......97 mph :p

Only joking, its good for moralle......i'll have a bash next time I'm out and let you know.

not much use to you but mi 999 does 110 at 6000rpm,i know this 'cos i'm still running the fooooker in!!!!!!! must get out more

Thought someone somewhere has chart of all the gearing combos for Ducatis with resulting MPH/per 1000rpm?

Might be worth a search in shaazams stuff or in the tech section on the DSC??

Ray.

Shazaam'z gearing file in the Tech section lists all combinations of sprockets and gearing for the SBKs but doesn't give you the speeds for each gear with different sprockets. I sent an interactive Xcel file to Mike last week which does this but he hasn't included it in the Tech section. It doesn't cover the newer models but you can enter your own figures in. The server won't let me upload the file but if you are interested pm me and I'll send you a copy.

I've managed to Zipit. I'll try this and see if it works. Seems to be happy :)

And another

Here is another. Just enter you values for sprockets, gear ratios and tyre sizes and it will give you your speed in any gear at any revs you enter. :)

And I am supposed to understand that !

It's not as hard as it looks Ian. :) You enter your values in the red column and it calculates the rest automatically. Have a play around with it and you will get the hang of it. If you change the rear sprocket, currently 39t, to a 40t you'll see that the top speed drops from 171 to 167mph because of the reduced gearing.
The figures for the internal gearing and primary drive for your bike you can get off Shazaam's gearing page, or read them from your owner's manual. Enter them with the tyre size you are using then you can play around and find the effects of different sprocket combinations.
When my son had an RD50 a couple of years ago we had great fun working out the sprockets that would give it the highest speed. It was actually quite useful.

I have kinda sussed it, I really hate excel as I have to blag my knowledge of it all the time as I can't be arsed to get a proper handle of it, I will look up my bikes stats and then see what it comes up with, as a guess I would say about 145 ?

Many thanks for posting that up though !

Sorry Derek, had quite a few tech articles to add ( and still do) and have been working away this week so no ftp access or time to do it :( I'll get a bit of time this weekend (I hope) to add more.

Derek,

I reckon you're quickly becoming our own Shazaam mate! :D

I not sure whether to take that as a compliment or not :embarassed:

I suppose I tend to be a bit of a techy :geek:
But after 35 years of servicing, maintaining and fixing every vehicle I've ever owned I've learned a lot. I've alway believed in knowing as much about my bike as I can. So that if I'm going to do a job I can do it right. That includes having the all right information and the right tools for the job before I start. It amazes me how many bikers can't even adjust a chain themselves, every little job, no matter how minor, they take it to the dealer. But I'm getting off the subject a bit...

This will make it easier for you:

Oh and 6000 RPM in 6th on a stock 749 would be 86 Mph.
