Hey folks im wondering if i could get some advice if possible :D

Im gonna be selling my monster after the masher run for a 916 *always been the dream* and there is one just down the road to me sitting in a shed and looking very sorry but its got a list of things to be done to it .... *with a lot of TLC*

Its a 95 Bip with about 16k on it *i think*

Needs a new lower right fairing because the back tire went flat and it fell over in the winter making a nice hole in the faring.

Theres little bits of corrosion *E.g white poweder* forming on the exaust pipes, cans and front forks

It needs a full respray the frame has a few rusty looking bits from some stone chips, All the paint from both wheels has flaked off and a lot of the other plastics have scratchs ...ect they are ok but would benifit a respray.

And all the usual stuff belts, tires, oil ..... yada yada yada really a full serivce to go with it too.

on the plus side of things it dose run and i did have a shot of it and every thing is working ok ....*for now* and ride's really well.

I asked how mutch and he said 2k  i was going to say back to him 2 WHAT!! at the time but decided not to lol

Now has anyone taken on a project that sound like this or would the wise thing to do is to walk ....walk faster ... then run away

if your going to take it on as a project, its better to fund it by not selling your bike, cause projects have a tendency to take lomger than you thought. i thought my lambretta would take 3 months im 6 months in and only half way through. it does sound very rough and if you can afford it it might be better to look elsewhere for something in better nick but the choice is yours

i'd concur, its very frustrating having a bike in the garage in bits. particularly in the good weather.

I think you need to educate him on how much it's going to cost you to sort it out, and if it's not been looked after on the outside then it probably hasn't been looked after on the inside. I would offer him £1k and be prepared to go no higher than another £50:eek:

You can do a lot of tidying up of the engine etc yourself and keep the costs down.
However if you reckon it needs frame and panels painted you are looking at stripping the thing completely.
By the time you do the frame, panels, replace that panel, wheels etc apart from the time you are not going to have change out of £1k.
That assumes mechanically it's ok and I bet it needs something if cosmetically it is like that.
If you are spending £2k on this then put another £500 to it and get a good tidy one and save yourself the hassle.
Derek's son got one last year for about this money if I recall correctly.
They are out there and the later models aren't climbing in price yet.
From experience I can tell you projects often remain projects long after the point they should have been on the road!

Take 239Desmo's advice Wulfie & run away.
To much hassle.
Would be great to get mega cheaply, & spend 6 months to a year re-building, but I know you want it up & running ASAP.
Keep searching the forum & MCN for a better model to start on & do up.
As Stuart says, Dereks loon picked one up just a wee bit more.;)

Does it have to be a 916?
Have seen 996's advertised locally at sensible money.
Will let you know if I come across anything assuming you haven't bought this one by then!
Seem to recall CJK giving off the "must have at any price" vibes a while ago as well.
You youngsters need a wee bit patience that's all!:p :lol2:

IIWY & AICQPBTATSL I would wait until somebody on here put's a 'for sale' ad up and look at buying that. Save your money and make them an offer and a quick sale might be the clincher :)
